Question:
I'll be the sucker who voices my opinion. I wholeheartedly agree with letting her die. My greatest fear in life is being trapped in my body. Kill me if that happens. Could you imagine laying in bed for 15 years having people wipe you butt, clean you and you lay there completely aware of it all? ^&%$ THAT! And thankfully, she seemed to not be aware.
I have worked for the last 10 years (before I got to the point where I couldn't work!) in the nursing home industry. It has been my experience that family cannont let go and are constantly in a denial state. No, not always, but damn close.
Mom and Dad are perfectly capable of using the toilet. They never soil themselves. They always ate well at home. And so on. Then why did you put them in a home????
It must be heart wrenching for the parents to see their daughter like this. I can't blame them for wanting her to stay with them and recover. But, it was selfish to make her into a pet. (sorry if that offends anyone, but that is what her life came to IMHO)
Now, I ABSOLUTELY do not agree with her husband. He sounds like a bastard. He goes on and has kids with another woman. He has moved on, obviously. So, if he is such a moral christian, and can't divorce his wife-how come he can commit adultery? People that hide behind their faith when its conveinent make me ill. Be a man. Step aside and go on with your life. He should've given POA (power of attorney) to her parents and divorced her years ago.
So now we are left to wonder about all the whys and how comes.
If she didn't want to live like this, then why oh why did they "save her" in the first place.
Let this serve as a warning to all of us--me included--HAVE A LIVING WILL!
You can get one free at any healthcare place like a hospital or clinic. I never want this BS to happen to me.
Anyone seen the movie Million Dollar Baby. OMG! That movie is so awesome and so the way I feel about euthenasia. I won't ruin it for anyone-but go see it!
the courts ruled and the law won. The parents went way overboard here. They gave her away, thats the way it works. And in todays world it is no longer adultery. Why blame him for it when everybody else does it and it makes no difference. If it was illegal to commit adultery don't you think the high state court of Florida would have addressed it? It is ok in todays society to cheat, it happens all the time. Some get caught and pay the consquences and some get caught and get forgiven. Mikes no worse than the others. Terri just didn't have the ability to stop it.
I agree with you Jessica. It might not be the popular opinion but it is what it is. I definitely dont want to live like that.
Peace,
Shawn

Todays world?
So-who changed the rules on adultery? Cheating on your spouse is adultery- always has been and always will be.
Granny,,,todays GENERATION thinks nothing of ADULTERY,,,I GUESS SEX WOULDN'T BE ON MY MIND IF MY DH WAS LIVING IN THAT BED........ BUT THIS IS WHAT TRUE LOVE IS ALL ABOUT.........
BESIDES A MOTHER AND FATHERS LOVE..... SO SAD...........
May Terri rest in peace. I feel so sorry for the fanaticism on both sides but mostly for those that don’t get the point of this tragic story. I believe that God took her life 15 years ago. For those that wanted to see Terri continue in her present state I think they should try to put themselves in her shoes for a while. My living will calls for some life sustaining measures for a one year period after that if I can not express my needs and thoughts I want to go to Heaven.
I just hope that these events will encourage more people to make there wishes known for the benefit of all their loved ones. I believe that the right thing happened and Terri can now be at peace.
As for all the other issues with her husband and family I think that is between them and God.
She's dead now, so it no longer matters. But I only hope that an autopsy will answer questions about her husband's possible involvement in putting her in the condition she was in for the last 15 years.
I don't know about you, but when I heard about the mileage checks, and the bone scan results, I have serious doubts about her husband's "true love" for her.
But that's just my opinion. ;)
I seriously thought about whether or not to put my opinions out there. Glad to know I am not the only one who feels the way I do.
I agree with everyone in my own way.
Adultery is adultery no matter what you call it, that is true--HOWEVER,in this crap society we live in it is no big deal anymore. I personally don't want to be married to a cheater. And if he had such true love for her, he should have let her be cared for by her family and walked away. Not started another family while still married to Terri! Give me a break.
Her husband is a dark charecter. I have read a little about him and there seem to be a lot of things that we will never know the truth about. I too am curious reguarding the autopsy. I hope it reveals that she was vegetative. Maybe people can accept it a little more. But still, this was a family matter and should never have gotten the attention that it did.
Well, eventually the truth comes out and it will in this case too.

Hi
May Terri rest in peace now .
She probably never felt the pain .
We don't know for sure .
All the drama is caused by the husband.
Not my role to judge anybody . We just have opinion on the way people behave .
Yes , he is the one to blame for.
Even though adultery is not a crime anymore .
It's a matter of decency , integrity and values .
I realldy don't care who people sleep with , as long as they don't claim their rights when they don't have one .
Because of his lack of compassion and love for Terri and family , he abused on his role of a citizen for being 'legally' married to her . Only because the paper and who knows what else behind the scenes he is up to .
sorry , but , he is the one who caused all of this.
After thinking and hearing advisors , my opinion is
euthanasia is a murder to those who commit it , and a suicide for those who ask .
Being trapped , is a probation for the spirit of the victims , their parents and loved ones . And we can not interfere , and get rid of it before the time .
I just pray , hope that God watch us all the time and make people be good to each other , so , we don't have to deserve something like this .
I'm done with my opinions about Terri's case.
it's being very sad all this time .
Take care

Strormchaser your 100% right. I do not and will allow nyone to keep me alvie in a vegatative state.
Lving wills and advanced medical directives are important. Government, church all have to stay out of a person body!
Mitch
If it is not a case of PVS (persistive vegetative state) then I don't reallyknow what to say. I really do believe it was the case. I remember when I first started out as a nursing aid. We had a young girl who was just 18. Her mom was a cracked out (explenitive deleted  ) whose boyfriend shot her pointblank in the head. And before you ask, yes she was still seeing him even though he was in jail and after what he had done!
They called the girl "Kizzy"-I couldn't make that up-and that poor girl suffered. She was also in PVS. She laughed, cried, moved her arms and legs, and her mom believed she was going to get better. Her brain was mush. I saw the records in her chart. Her mom would put the railings down after the aids would leave and let Kizzy throw herself out of bed-then try to sue the home for mistreatment. Shortly after she came to our facility and did this, they investigated the family and all that jazz and found a way to get her moved out of our facility. I don't have any clue what happened after that.
I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV  , BUT...I have been around and seen people in the same state. It is sad, heartbreaking and intolerably frustrating to see someone locked inside themselves like that.
We each need to make our feelings known so that our loved ones can help us if we ever need it. Tell more than one person, a living will, a note yhou get notarized and keep somewhere same...anything will do I guess.
I don't want to knock anyone's religion, but being a martyr and suffering is not high on my list of priorities. If I, God-forbid, ever have a major trauma like she did, then they need to pull the plug at the get-go. I would ;much rather go home to God and my parents than linger in this crazy world.
Okay, I'm off my soapbox now! :o
I wouldn't want to live like that, but couldn't they have done something differently instead of starving her to death?
I think there is more to the story than the general public knows.
Personally, I would not want to live like that. My family already knows my wishes and I also had a living will and an advanced medical directive written years ago. Pull the plug on me, that isn't living. I watched too many family members die trapped in their own bodies not even recognizing anyone anymore. Hopefully that poor woman is finally at peace.

Oh please, don't get me started. Go to my HEADS UP! thread. Mitch/Rosey3939 has imparted some very valuable information in his above post, at HEADS UP you can get the materials to take care of your end of life issues. LINK - Hey MikeK, how do you like that shit? LOL!
I can't help myself, allow me this, STOP PROJECTING! One surgical procedure, one kill, so easy from so far away. The parents went overboard? I'd say killing her was a little ya know uh um well ..................... forget it. You'll have a change of heart when Judge Greer moves that "line" right past people who have itchy, scaley, flakey skin and agonizing joints - what kind of a quality of life is that? Kill them. Are you kidding me?
The law won? You are scary. Think about this, every human being murdered by Hitler was done legally. Laws passed, Courts adjudicated, SS enforced. All perfectly legal. Chew on that boo!
There's a whole lot more over at MelissaLynn's "Can You Stump Us" thread, starts on page 7, post #166. Dare ya!

and my opinion of the matter really changed. i think i was mislead by certain people telling me she knows what's going on around her and all that (so i couldn't understand why they'd want to pull the tube), but she doesn't. it was sad watching the show, but i now agree with them pulling the tube

I wonder how many people who feel that the courts did the right thing, agree with the courts when they give the death penalty to convicted criminals. It's kind of sad, that we can't starve all the murderers to death, while their family watches. And if anyone says that she wasn't able to feel, or comprehend what was happening PROVE IT. Show some proof. A bunch of doctors that say it was so? How many of you think that doctors know anything when it comes to curing your P? I am not gonna raise my hand.
Oh well, I supose it doesn't matter in Terri's case anymore. She's dead. The judges gave her the death sentence. Lethal injection would have been faster, so would electrocution, or even a bullet in the head. Does that sound harsh? Hmm, spending 2 weeks starving to death sounds worse to me.
I guess I am glad that I don't have to play God and decide such matters.
The most disgusting thing was that they claimed she was not murdered because all they did was refrain from treating her. Oddly enough I thought that eating was neccessary to sustain life and not just a treatment. I guess with this logic they could have just smothered her to death since oxygen was probably a treatment as well.
All I get is SHAME ON YOU SCOTT, when I suggest the same for the POPE.
Scott,
Even if you put the Pope and Terri on the same playing field, there is still a huge difference.
The Pope's body is shutting down, the natural progression is taking place, but there is no evidence that Terri would have expired, on her own.
I have worked for the last 10 years (before I got to the point where I couldn't work!) in the nursing home industry. It has been my experience that family cannont let go and are constantly in a denial state. No, not always, but damn close.
