Question:
Sounds sort of crazy but from what I've read, all the basic living part of the brain was working and working well.
As we get older and realize that we can't take our money with us and finally get fed up with working everyday, the one thing most of us never give up on is our children.
I haven't heard that Mike and Terri had any kids, and thought geez, she maybe, in theory could have a child. A lot of people have pronouced her situation as hopeless, however, I wonder if she medically could have had a child to continue her "life" in other means.
I know that a lot of women, prior to having children, promote these "wishes" to their husbands. At least mine did. I would find it highly more probable that Terri told Mike that she wanted children before she discussed end of life issues at her age.
I don't think it's been discussed in the news, but if her wishes were to have a baby would it be medically unethical to have her impregnated?
I guess before you consider her useless, maybe she could have promoted her genetic heritage prior to death. That would be a special child in my opinion and I'm sure that the shindler family, if Mike wasn't interrested, would raise that child right.
Hi
Well , Terri no longer can tell us that .

Its just a shame that we all know about it. Nobody has the right to snoop or even comment on something that has nothing to do with us. Im not trying to make a stink. But we should just pray for her, and not talk about it. Because I know for a fact I wouldnt want ppl who have no idea bout my condition talking about me.
I agree TOTALLY with you Krystal it is irrelevant whether or not she COULD have had a baby in her state... Come on now.. The woman is dying and how all this plain and simple CRAP is coming out about what could have been done and what should have been done doesnt matter anymore.. we should just be praying that she finds her peace..... and is not in pain.... These reporters and people snooping in her business should really be ashamed of themselves... even if it is their job
I'm sorry ladies, but I couldn't disagree more. This involves our courts and they are setting a presidence with this case. If the shindlers and shaivos did not want the publicity they should have solved this without public intervention.
Decisions made in our courts affect all of us.
I had hoped to find that this disabled person might be capable of the miracle of life when confronting death, however, it seems that more people are interrested in death than life in this country.
I have had the opportunity to see a lot of death in my lifetime, up close and personal. It's just unfortunate. Well I guess you're right again, The Pro-deathers seem to have won again. I don't see how much good prayings going to do with this one anymore.
I'm sorry ladies, but I couldn't disagree more. This involves our courts and they are setting a presidence with this case. If the shindlers and shaivos did not want the publicity they should have solved this without public intervention.
i just tired of all this. the courts are sytem that is just like any thing eles. full of poeple that don't care. if they did they would make a difrents. i would love to say more. but there are kids on here. i looked up to you brad. but i don't know more.
All Im saying is. How would you like it if your life was drug out into the public and people knew everything about you. Im not a cruel person, but I dont think she should be able to have a kid. Its one unfair to her and the child. Neither would know the other. And for two, he beat the crap out of her. Who else is gonna father the child? We need to think about things.
This is simply a case that people stuck their noses in where it didnt belong. Do I agree with what their doing? NO. All Im simply doing is saving another argument from happening on the message boards. Because there is no way were all going to agree.

Thats actually a pretty good statement. I'm not sure where the fight part is coming from but it is a good point. The courts, it seems, would once again grant custody of the child to the father.
The part about people putting their nose in where it don't belong is incorrect however. This is no doubt the familys fault. When they bring this issue to the court, it does become a public issue. Courts are there to interpret the law. What they rule in this case in theory will effect future similar rulings as they work on a precendence factor.
One thing for sure here is that the squeaky wheel gets the greese. Now is the time to voice opinion or just don't say anything and let it go.
A lot of people, including the NPF feel that the government can make a difference, thus captial hill day. Remember, there are about 98% of the population that really don't care much about how much money the govt spends on psoriasis In addition, there is another percentage of the remaining 2% that don't have severe P like some of us and they just deal with it. Many probably don't even know about the NPF or that people fight for this cause.
Thus my question, does Terri's disability make her worthless and worthy of dying? One thing that I can tell you about my wife after 13 years of marriage is that her desire to have children is for real and I suspect that a number of women have that same desire. Now this obviously is not going to apply to everyone but just a thought from my experience.
A lot of people have varying opinions on Terri's medical condition. I just wonder if she is capable of having a child. Ideally, in my opinion, a child should be raised by two parents but it is obvious in our society that a number of children are now raised by a single parent or step parents. When my sister died my parents raised her three young children, sometimes this is necessary.
It is interresting that on the news I heard that she moans during menses, many have referred this to "pain". This also suggests that she still has cycles. It is also interresting Krys that you mention "abuse". In my experience as a crime scene investigator I have investigated a number of abuse cases including "hidden" abuse. It will be an interresting subject as time continues and an autopsy is performed.
I can assure you that our police department investigates all alleged incidents of abuse. Another issue that presents itself on a regular basis is family abuse. If we investigate a case of "unknown injury", I can assure you that a husband/wife/or other family member is typically automatically suspect due to their intimate relativivity to that individual/victim.
Abuse has not been proved but a lot of individuals suspect it. I applaud them for having an autopsy, hopefully this will shed new light on the issue and put our fears to rest.
One nice thing about being in America is that we can discuss difficult issues instead of taking a ruling from Sadam. We also have the right to demonstrate and appeal.
Ok.. you wanna talk about wheither or not she could have had a baby. I honestly dont think so. Because your body needs to be well to carry a child. And with her body being sick, i think her body would see the baby as an intruder. I know Im no doctor.
Impregnating someone in her condition seems HIGHLY unethical to me.
What if it was what she wanted prior to her vegatable status, do you think a court would buy that one?
I did read that a woman in that condition was raped by a sicko and got pregnant and had the baby. It was a hospital worker. This was a few years ago, I don't remember whre it was.
I think that she could sustain child bearing (god forbid with her husband obviously not caring about life).
I think that this is very important to discuss. I think the precedents being set are going to affect us all, by not discussing it we are letting people inolved (such as judges and lawyers) make the rules for us instead of figuring out what we want. By discussion we can come to a common ground and go to our legislators and request of them to make the laws (instead of the activist court).
By not discussing issues such as these we close our eyes and when we open them we no longer recognize the country that has evolved around us. The thing is that not every contradiction has to be an arguement. I think this type of forum allows us all to share our opinions and feelings and laughter and sadness about everything that is important to us.
I pray for Terri and her parents.
Impregnating someone in her condition seems HIGHLY unethical to me.
Starving someone in her condition seems HIGHLY unethical to me.
One of the biggest problems that I'm having with it is the manner in which she is dying. If the court rules that she would not like to be left in this condition then kill her, don't dilly dally, overdose her or something.
The biggest problem the court faces is that it is against the law in Florida to provide assisted suicide.
I think even in Oregon, the euthenasia laws require full mental capacity.
Thus the court elects the legal way to starve her to death, which in effect, is no different than euthenasia because we know it will cause death.
I have seen elderly people commit suicide on their own. I saw and old grandad shoot himself in the chest with a shotgun and an older lady put a plastic bag over her head. In both instances these people were under severe physical distress and elderly. I think even in the indian ways, old people at a certain point in their life were known to walk away from the tribe to die.
I think in some cases there should be an easier out, but not starvation.
Brad,,,it's so nice to see a man talk about things like this,,,you are such a compassionate person,,especially in the line of work your in,,,I remember reading how you offered people here money for a visit to the Dr's,,,you try and help anyone,,,YOUR A GREAT MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I MUST SAY YOU ARE SOMEONE TO BE LOOKED UP TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as this topic,,,this husband should be happy i'm not his mother-in-law... i'm sure I would have been in jail by now.....and if he was my son I would feel the same way,,,, a ruthless murderer doesn't die of starvation let alone a daughter to a mother and father.....
I'd take him,,,tie him to a chair and as many days as she went without water or food,,,so would he.....
If anyone in their right mind thinks this is ok...regardless of her circumstances,,,BELONGS TO BE STARVED ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we should take all the lawyers and judges who refused to look at the case, put them in a room, and not feed them for 13 days. And let them tell us how it feels to starve to death. Because thats what their doing. But the best part of that for us would be, the fact that they would be able to talk and express how it feels to starve to death.
krys,,,,,exactly,,,,,my heart breaks for that mother,,,can you imagine you give birth to a child and this is the way her life ends,,,I can't even discuss the bitterness I have for that no good man ((( husband,,,please))) not meaning anything towards a fathers love,,,but a mothers love is un-questionable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't even think of me in that situation,,,,my brother and sister lost their daughters and both of them would tell you ,,just to have them back to touch and hug and kiss,,,and both say they would wait till their day that GOD TAKES THEM..................NEVER,,,NEVER,,,THIS WAY...................
SO UNLESS SOMEONE LOST A CHILD CAN ANYONE SAY WHAT THEY WOULD DO,,,,YOU CAN ONLY GUESS,,
LIKE THEY SAY THE WORSE THING YOU CAN SAY TO A PARENT IS I KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING THROUGH......NO YOU DON'T UNLESS YOU LOST A CHILD....
Someone said on the news,,,no one has ever stayed alive this long without water or food,,,,is that GOD telling us something??????????? I BELIEVE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!
Arl,
I think so. I think it is time for people to wake up and pay attention!
I still think this guy has something to hide.
Granny,,,750,000 is that what's it's all about??? That's what he get's on death due to a lawsuit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway did you see on the news a few weeks ago,,the 17 yr. old girl was in a car accident,,,not sure brain dead or coma,,,but she was a vegetable,,,her mother and father sat at her side day in and day out,,,she is now 39 came to,,,and is in a wheel chair,,,going for therapy,,,was able to say mom and dad I LOVE YOU....HOW ABOUT THAT.............A MOTHER AND FATHER WILL SIT BY THEIR CHILD TO THE VERY END.......
I do have to agree with you ladies in that it is HORRIBLE that this is what she is going through... I actually had a LONG conversation with my family about this tonight and what we would all do in this situation... Some of us are young, some middle, and some older. If you do a living will when you are young your opinion may change 20-30 years down the road when for some reason you might need to use it and haven't updated it.

Katie, I was just sitting down with a lawyer tonight and discussing all of this. It is best to go with a Health Care Proxy because Living Wills get too complicated. In the Health Care Proxy you can make a general statement that you have discussed with you proxy things like artificial nutrition etc.
Once I get the papers back I can pm you with the exact legal terminology he uses.
Marie
Thanks Marie that would be great..... you know filling out a will at my age is pretty scary..... this other thing seems better... let me know... im just reading up on what is going on with the case now... it so sad... its just makes me grateful for all the wonderful people I have in my life that love me for me
