Question:
Does anyone know when this is due for release? I know its released in USA and can be ordered on Region 1 for £26.99. Does anyone know when it's due for release here?
Thanks
i thought the rights to the first Austin Movie were owned in the UK by Pathe and the second two were owned by EiV so im not sure how likely a boxed set of the three is
Yeah, that's correct.
It might happen eventually, but I'd be surprised if a collection boxset is released over here.
OK ... so are the R1 versions worse than the R2 or better...
I vaguely remember hearing that the R1 version of the first film had some cuts?
Or am I mad?
The R2 had scenes included in the main body of the first film (inc Rob Lowe in the dead henchmen scene) that were on as deleted scenes only in the R1 DVD. The commentary goes silent on the R2 over these scenes as it was recorded for the R1 version.
Other than that, I believe that the R1 of the first film had a few extra extras, but nothing too exciting. And the R1 version of The Spy Who... includes an exclusive Dr Evil 'mockumentary' which runs almost 30 mins if I recall.
As well as the "international version" of the first film having all the US deleted scenes in the main body of the movie, it also includes the Christian Slater "orange sherbert" scene that is nowhere to be seen on the US disc.
The R1 is also (rather strangely) in the "director approved" ratio of 2.1:1 (instead of the OAR 2.35:1, as all other region releases are - and indeed as the other 2 films in the series are as well)
This looks to be slightly un-matted rather than pan & scan but maybe someone can confirm?
Anyway the extra scenes in the R2 / R4 version make it a better, funnier film imho.
Buy the US boxset (as it's the same price as buying films 2 & 3 seperatley) and buy the R2 or R4 of the first film - then you have all of everything!

You saddo!
Unlike your totally sad excuse for buying the US boxset (is it actually in a box though?), I'm getting it just so I can have the R1 The Spy Who... in an Amaray!
You = sad.
Me = not sad.

Yep it does come in a box set at play.com £26.99. Still not sure whether to go for it as so many diff opinions but works out quite expensive buying seperatley.:(
