A: No!
. . . :| . . .

Answers:

Je ne comprendre pas.
I would get the French 4 discer, if I'd actually understood French. I was never good at French.
Will have to make do with the Dutch 2 discer, which I still need to get. But I'm a bit annoyed that they didn't subtitle the commentary for the Dutch discs. If I can't understand the French in the main soundtrack, I'll hardly do better on the commentary.

Answers:

Note before anyone starts asking if the dutch edition has english subtitles that Martin lives in the Netherlands and it only has Dutch subtitles.
I recently received the french special edition of 8 Femmes, I do not speak french very well so I'll have to try following the subtitles for the hard of hearing which might improve my french but hey it comes in a red velour slip case so I'm happy. I think I need therapy to help resist purchasing unreasonable DVDs but at least I only own the Canadian edition of Brotherhood of the wolf and a single copy of My Sassy Girl.
Anyways if you want a copy of 8 femmes with english subtitles think bilingual french/english nation and nip over to the canadian sites (dvdboxoffice at £16 all in and dvdsoon at £10 plus p & p) as they're offering pre ordering of it with a release date of 25/02.
Note that these are single discs only so probably no videos of catherine deneuve performing her song :( (but thats okay coz I've got the french set :D )

It looks a cracking set, shame my French isn't up to scratch.
I really enjoyed the film too.
Noel Megahey did a great thorough review on Dvdtimes

Its becoming increasingly so that the French are bringing out some great dvd editions, shame most have no english subs.

It's surprisingly easy to follow with the hard of hearing subs. Other than the commentary, luckily the rest of the discs don't really need subs to be understood - the one hour documentary doesn't really have that much talking or to camera interviews anyway, obviously the music clips don't need subs, etc. It would be nice if the stage play had subs but if you've been able to follow the film it shouldn't be all that difficult.

Me too :norty:
Seriously, it'll be interesting to see how the Canada/US/UK (eventually...) editions pan out against the lovely French set. And yes, I agree it's very annoying that more and more (superior) French DVDs are being released without English subs.

...and how many (superior) UK DVDs (of UK movies) are being released without French (or German) (or Spanish) (or Italian) subs?

Please don't be under the impression that all French DVDs with English subs are up to proper standards. I've got the French DVD of Une liaison pornographique, and the English subs are absolutely awful. Bad grammar, spelling and punctuation throughout. It really takes you out of it, if you need to focus on the subs instead of enjoying the movie.

Answers:

hmm the English subs for Une Liaison Pornographique may be iffy (or not, I don't remember) but at least they exist on a french DVD as there isn't a release in the UK, one of those that Momentum chose to forget about having released the video. You would have to buy the R1 release and thats been renamed to An Affair of Love in case the americans thought it was a porn film. Funnily they didn't rename Romance to let the americans know it was a porn film (unless calling it Romance X was meant to mean something)

Talking of which - what on earth were they thinking about when they made that video. Deneuve gets undresssed then we get a shot of someone finding a plate of old spaghetti in the fridge which then gets popped into a pan ... then back to Deneuve in bed...
Anyone care to explain the specific metaphor being used here? Spaghetti = freudian symbol? French obsession with food (esp. reheated Italian)?
:D
