Question:
I watched Escape from New York recently (R1).
The opening captions mention 1997 and you all know what has happened to Manhattan by then.
Well, I just thought that this prediction was so wildly wrong, what with NY seeming to me to be remarkably safer in 2002 than it was in 1984. Far cry from a penitentiary.
So it set me wondering about other way-off predictions (like T2 with the nuclear blast, but I forget the year (1997 too?)).
Well A.I. features the frozen futuristic remains of the World Trade Centre. By the time the film was released theatrically in the UK, the Twin Towers were no more.
They were the replacement towers built in memory of the originals in 2024. So :p nice try.
2001 - A Space Odyssey
. . . :( . . .

Fair enough. :)
Robocop was supposed to be set in the late 90's I think..no ED-209s on the street yet. :(
Wasn't the original series of Lost in Space supposed to be set in the crazy space decade of the 1980s?
Strange Days was kind of spookily accurate about some stuff, but thought recorders??? :D
In fact probably every movie ever set in 1999 is incorrect.
Clockwork Orange is also pretty unbelievable, isn't? :noid:
(And I'll stick my neck out and see we won't have flying cars by 2015 so that puts BTTF Part II out of the running, also!!)
My favourite was always the TV series UFO. Has there really been silver haired girlies in catsuits living on the moon since 1980? If so, I've missed out.
Braveheart and Titantic got in wrong and they were both made after the event!
Didn't it predict a missive earthquake in Los Angeles or San Francisco in about 1999?
There are 1000s of films you could mention in here to be honest........

Nope I believe that was "The Big One OF 2010"

I'm sure you are right... but it wouldn't be much of a conversation topic if there were only two or three.
Demolition Man - oh dear, still have that to look forward to.
On the subject of TV, does anyone know when time travel was invented (Time Tunnel)?
;)
Titantic got in wrong
How exactly did TITANIC get it wrong. As far as I know the ship did sink!
1984 came & went without any sign of an all-intrusive totalitarian society.
Oh wait, we had Thatcher.

Just about the only fact they got right.

Well, it's about 20 years to late, but we're getting there thanks to Blair!
ref 1984.
Back in 1979, an episode of Yes Minister discussed setting up a database of info relating to all citizens. I bet that is lurking somewhere, 20 odd years later.

Thats pink haired girlies in silver dresses :dork:
Space 1999 - enough said!
Actually 2001 was not that far out in some respects, it predicted that there would be an earth orbiting space station and we got one - admittedly a bodged russian/american mecanno kit but thats life!
