First Films Watched In The New Year?
Question:

What with someone asking what are the first DVDs you'll be receiving this new year, I wondered what films (if any) people had seen today.
Today I've seen, in this order:
Kissing Jessica Stein
Them!
Sting 2
Sweet Sixteen
Don't Look Back
The Majestic
Quite a full day of movie watching, but I was probably one of the few people up at 8am this morning! (And without a hangover!)

Sweet Sixteen was excellent, very raw and brutal with exceptional performances from the unprofessional cast. It's now near the top of my favourite films of 2002. On the downside it's not the most original film - numerous others have dealt with the same issue, children becoming involved with the criminal underworld (recent release City Of God springs to mind), but Sweet Sixteen has more of a familiar scene as it's about British kids and in the present. Perhaps Ken Loach's best work in about ten years.

First DVD watched this year was Star Trek The Motion Picture - Director's Cut. Picked it up in WHSmiths for under £9 the weekend. Fell asleep just after they entered the cloud. Still found some scenes a bit slow and/or overlong, but will try to see it all the way through over the weekend. Shame Kirk's 'Oh My God!" after the transporter failure got cut - cracked me up evey time I heard it! :)
