Question:
I just got the BBC film Warriors from France and it has fixed subtitles when you watch the english version, when i try to turn them off my player says operation currently prohibited by dvd
Nothing you can do when the subtitles are burned into the film, but if they are player generated, excuse me, i bought the player, i paid for it, shouldn't it be on MY side and remove subtitles if I ask it to ? :nono:
Unfortunately, a lot of French and Spanish DVDs have fixed subtitles of this kind.
It's a shame, but there is probably not a great deal you can do about it.
Would that be the one about the British UN soldiers that go to Kossovo?
I hope so cuz I have been waiting forever to see this on DVD
One of the best TV productions ever!!
BTW (if we're talking about the same film) what aspect ratio is it in?
yep it's a real pain - i've been wanting to find an internet list of DVD players that can have the User Operations Prohibition removed but there just doesn't seem to be any info on it (bar some sony's)...
RE: this I read somewhere that this was not stupid DVD makers but contractual agreements with the film's distributors - a small DVD company will only get the licence for the French version and the subtitled English version but NOT the version without the subs (as the mother company will hope to recoup the profits for that when they release it in the UK!) - it's just another form of this regionalisation of DVDs and it's quite scandolous (same goes for why so few French DVDs are subbed in English - protecting markets)

Yes thats the one
I got it from www.cinestore.fr , not sure if amazon.fr had it as well
its 1.66 anamorph and looks quite nice, just the subtitles...sigh
For what it's worth, DVD Region-Free (http://www.dvdidle.com) can be used to remove OUPs when playing titles on a PC.
