Question:
Let'e be honist i am fed up with, why is it good ' Well its Star Wars' what a load of boll@cks.
Episode 2 is rubbish just take your time to listent to dialgoue spoken by actors who are acting in blue rooms and you can tell. They are obvisouly finding it difficult as 90% is computer effects.
George Lucas should look at LOTR on how to use special effects.
At least Episode 1 had a good pod race and a good fight at the end. Everything in Episode 2 is done to keep the fans happy. Oh lets have a big jedi war cause it will look really good and the fans will love it. It just throws out the window all of what being a Jedi is. As if the jedi would put themselves in that postion.
I'm not holding out much hope for Episode 3 it will only be good if someone else writes it and they actualy build some sets.
Oh well sorry about the rant had to get it of my chest after i saw that after FOTR this was the best film of the DECADE:shocker: :shocker: :oh-hum: in the teletext pole. Oh plz you saying that Episode 2 is better than say Fight Club or any number of films.
Happy New Year ;):)

The films are far from perfect but as peices of entertainment they work
Its not rubbish, but its not great.
What a suprise, another AOTC bashing thread
If it's so bad, there weren't that many films better than it last year (10 at the very most)

Niether film lived up to my hopes but they had some good StarWars moments that made parts of the original 3 films look very dated. The problem with the 2 new ones is they tried to do too much with technology at times and you might aswell be watching a computer game as people have said before. The "feel" of StarWars was lost alot of the time due to poor dialog and BSBS (Blue Screen Block Syndrome) where an actor fails to "act" ;) .They are still great films for those few magic moments you just have to accept the cringe moments for what they were trying to do.
I dont see a problem with new threads on old subjects. Its nice to see what other people "think" of a film after its been out for a while.

And if youre talking UK cinema releases this year dont forget Donnie Darko:thumbs:
Got to be honest - I thought it was dreadful too.
I only watched it for the first time on a borrowed DVD - so I didn't have much invested in the experience - but personally I have no desire to see it ever again in my life.
The reason I don't like it is because it has no heart, I didn't care for any of the characters.
Also the fact that it was almost all shot on digital sets meant that no one seemed to touch anything. They just walked up and down in front of things - hardly ever interacting with the scenery. It was all rather surreal and like a stage play or a computer game.
As I say - personal opinion only - glad some people enjoyed it - I don't think any less of you for it. There are some films that I like that others say are crap - this doesn't make me feel stroppy - just individual.
I enjoyed it.
I'm not a big fan of the series (don't think any of the 5 films are anything above 3 star affairs) but, I enjoy them all and I thought this was miles better than The Phantom Menace and Return of the Jedi.

I don't even like the original Star Wars films any more. Yes, there were good fun when I was a kid, but I just find them quite dull now.
They may have a nostalgic value, and may have been good in their time, but that doesn't mean that they have stood the test of time like the great epics of the 50s and 60s have (Lawrence of Arabia still looks good, whereas Star Wars looks naff).
Episode 2 was simply appalling - I literally fell asleep in one of the love scenes.

I did actually, literally fall asleep during watching it at the cinema. There were a few action set pieces which were interesting to watch and Natalie Portman is :shocker: but the film as it has been said time and again has no heart. Christopher Lee seemed to be the only actor worth watching because his screen presence outdoes awful direction. Hayden Christensen has to be the worst actor to grace any of the Star Wars films, and that's saying something!
If only George handed the directing job to someone else, not that it would make any difference however.
Me neither ...
Turgid, nausiating dialogue that is so convoluted even an Oxbridge don would give up trying to discern the plot: appaling acting from some (guy who played Anakin), zero-acting from others (Ewan McGregor); abysmally obvious GCI that looks worse than a PS2 game and has about as much heart; lazy, plain bad directing that couldn't even be described as "workmanlike" without insulting good, jobsworth workmen directors; the most gut-churningly awful and hackneyed "romance" in living memory ... Enough already!
A quite appaling film on every concievable level, and it brings tears to the eye when you think how many excellent small films or one or two amazing epics could have been made for the money.
Each Lord Of The Rings film had, when the budget is devided up, less spent on it than Episode 2: Attack of the Narcolepsy ... well, says it all really.
Or if it doesn't: Absolute ***** from start to finish!
I liked AOTC, good fun, and Hayden is not that bad, me thinks that he was badly directed by Lucas. Lee has tons of experience, which is why he was worthy.
Obviously, AOTC haters didn't buy the DVD...
Reasonable enough fun, mildly entertaining, crap dialogue, stop it with the bloody wipes, no heart or soul but....alright. A bit fanboy wet dream-y for me to be honest.
I think most people just watch a star wars flick just so they can bash it. It is no where near as awful as people make it out to be. Just Like I didn't like Lord of the Rings because it was far too long and had losts of pointless wondering and dream sequences where nothing happened. BTW I loved the Two Towers.
At the end of the day it comes down to what you like. Just like the guy on one of the previous posts states the he liked Fight Club, I can't understand it cause I hated it. But thats just my opinion and I am not gonna argue with anyone as the discussion is what makes this site interesting.
jez - i agree, its a bloody terrible film - how anyone can compare episodes 1 & 2 with the original trilogy i don't know, you people's opinions are clouded by your own nostalgias.
I dont really hate the film, but I cant say it is one I will watch very often in my life, the last few minutes where great though.
It would have worked if you believed the two leads could have actually fell for eachother, the dialogue sort of hurt the romance scenes and if they werent trying to hard to make it witty and fun with Anakin and Obi-wans banter.
Yoda and Samuel L Jackson were great fun though.
the jedi's have been turned into all powerful super-beings.
and the light saber is the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, making all advances in laser gun weaponry completely obsolete. what a joke.

That is true and it is down to personal opinion. However, Episode 2 is a bad film, many people might enjoy it but it is still a bad film. Fight Club is a good film people may not enjoy it though. It's like any work a painting could be a stick man then that would be a bad painting, people could still enjoy it. Even if it was not an amazing painting for example.
I can see when a film is good or bad its entirly a personal opinon weather you enjoy it or not:)
Just say I got that 'Empire Strikes Back' feeling watching another second parter of sorts, The Two Towers..it has all the elements that made Episode 5 a great film and then some, the characters going in different direction, cutting between them brilliantly, superb FX and a darker story..I'm afraid, though quite fun to watch, Attack of the Clones just isn't in the same league at all..

There is no way that people should even think about comparing the PT against the OT as they are completely different types of films. The reason that George Lucas made Episodes IV-VI first is because they were the more interesting. The PT (Episodes I-III) are never going to better the first three (although I have to say I prefer Episode II to Episode VI) because they have so much backstory to tell what with the political events that lead to the creation of the Empire and the rise of Palpatine Darth Sidious to the position of Emperor. So with the PT George Lucas has rather shot himself in the foot because there is too much story to tell and three films is really not enough. But in no way can I agree that Episode II is a bad movie, it was an entertaining film that actually gets better each time you watch it because more things become apparent that are missed on initial viewings.
Episode 2 is not wubbish, dis thread is wubbish.
Edit: sorry my kid brother hijacked me while I was away from the comp

AOTC is an OK film someone already said it's not a great film or a particularly good film but it's entertaining. The best thing about it is that it keeps the kids quite for a couple of hours.:)
its not art but i love it,despise the one b4, and love the first 3.
oh, and yes he isn't brando, but how anyone can complain about Hayden Christensen's acting and not pass comment on McGregor's (lack of) performance is criminal ;-) he is utterly atrocious in it.
Have to agree with the original poster. I saw this for the very first time the other night and thought it was absolute ****!! For what it's worth I thought the Phantom Menace was pretty poor...but AOTC is the worst film I've seen all year.
Lucas has proved yet again that he is no script writer...my god, it was laughable. The main problem with this film was that it was sooooo up it's own arse, displaying an embarrasing sense of self importance...it's just a film George, and thanks to your input, a quite atrocious one!!!
...Hayden Christensen was pure MDF, McGregor was incredibly tiresome...only Chrissie Lee escapes lambasting due to him being Chrissie Lee. I really couldn't have given a toss who lived or died...that's got to be a problem in a film of this type!
...am I eagerly awaiting episode 3? ...am I EDITED!
...for Christ's sake get yourself a decent scriptwriter next time George, your ILM effects do not provide the soul...without soul, what's the bloody point Mr Luca$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Yes, both have good and evil wizards, and characters who come back from the dead, huge armies, and of course the system of switching between the various characters and plot elements in the darker 'sequel'. In Return of the King there are even characters called Ewochs, who are hairy Orcs*!
