Naked Lunch SE + Parcelforce Charges
Question:

Ordered Naked Lunch Special Edition from CD Japan and I have to say that the disc is fantastic: The picture quality is excellent, sound is Dolby 5.1, subs are removable and best of all there is a 50 minute documentary, trailer and Cronenberg audio commentary. What a package (just need the same treatment for Videodrome and Crash, to name but a few).
However, this disc ended up costing me over £40 largely because of Parcelforce's ridiculous £13 clearance fee. How can they justify this fee? This has to be the most expensive single disc ever!!!!

Answers:

While the costs do sound astronomic it's good tyo know that there is such a good edition of NL out there. Look forward to getting a copy unless anyone can advise of a similar forthcoming UK R2 or R1 edition.

Answers:

Couldn't find it when I was in Japan a few weeks back but I'd love to get hold of a copy.
And this is more suitable for the Region Comparisons forum, but I caught a bit of Crash on TV the other day, haven't seen it since the cinema release and was hooked. What's the best disc? there's a Korean uncut anamorphic one, but is there one with decent extras too?

Answers:

Both R1 and R2 Crash are excellent in terms of picture quality. No extras other than a trailer. There is a director's commentary on the laserdisc, but this hasn't got onto DVD yet. Don't know about the Korean version of the DVD.
Naked Lunch can be obtained from www.cdjapan.co.jp

Answers:

Incidentally, both R1 and R2 Crash are anamorphic

...and are uncut

For those who don't want to spend £40 on 'Naked Lunch', the Dutch bare-bones version (1.85:1, DD 5.1, removable Dutch subs) is £6.50 delivered from Free Record Shop (http://www.freerecordshop.com/pages/productview.asp?ProductID=30011) ;)

Just on a side issue, the director's commentary on Naked Lunch, whilst very interesting, seems to tail off 2/3rds through the film. About half way through Cronenberg comments on how much he is enjoying watching the film again as it has been 10 years since he last watched it; he then says less and less until 2/3rds through the film he completely stops saying anything! He doesn't even comment on the ending. Normally on commentaries, he doesn't stop talking. Perhaps there is nothing more that he needs to say to qualify such an amazing film and perhaps he just wanted to sit back and enjoy it!
