Question:
...one of my favourite 80s horror films. Just seen that it's on PLAY's (http://www.playserver3.com/play247.asp?page=search&adudisc=y) lists for 13/01/03, for £12.99, if anyone's interested.
no doubt the cut to pieces american version, paramount refused to release the original uncensored cut...
Yeah,I've got the R1 version and it is cut :(

Its a pain in the backside that the version released wasnt uncut(in fact the Uk cinema release was longer),but its not quite the fault of Paramount in this case.
Early in the planning stage for the DVD release Paramount confirmed that they had the original film elements in their vault. They also confirmed that they had approached George Mihalka, the films director about re-editing the material back into the film.Basically Mihalka either didnt have the time or just couldnt be bothered,so the release became a bare bones one rather than the original planned uncut version.
Another interesting point is that while some of the violence WAS cut by the MPAA,the bulk of the scenes that were edited out were in fact taken out by the distributors of the film before it was ever submitted to the censors.
well,i heard the story somewhat differently-in fact the director was pretty keen but paramount wouldn't let him-and the fact they released the friday movies in a butchered state and refuse to let shatner release a DC of his trek movie makes me believe this..
i've got an old uk vhs release of it. would this be cut too?
yes,it's never been released uncut in uk or america.
cheers for that sam :)
whilst not uncut completely, i undrestand the uk dvd should be slightly longer than the usa disc...
Release date seems to have slipped on PLAY's site to 30/06/03.
The UK cinema release had one extra gore insert replaced, it's an arm being ripped off.
All home video versions were supplied from the same R rated master. It is true a reel of all the cut footage went out to every country upon it's theatrical release, but none of the extra stuff was used apart from the Japanese theatrical release & the 1st UK showings.
Paramount US would not release an unrated version as is their policy & as far as I know George Milhaka wasn't asked by Paramount to be involved with the R1 release, the film's producer on the otherhand very much wanted to put out the original version, Paramount declined his offer several times.
This uncensored footage may see the light of day in the form of flashback scenes inserted into the proposed sequel the original producer wants to make, this came to light last year, but since them, nothing has been heard of this project :(
Daliah.
moving the UK release date to June is crazy! (it's like Critical Mass producing a SE of "Black Christmas" only for it to not actually be available anywhere in time for Christmas!)
 I tell ya! Surely "My Bloody Valentine" would have more 'impulse purchases' if released near to it's namesake day?
Never heard of this film but by any chance is it a prequelk to a 2000 Horror movie that came out called Valentine?
CJL
Nope, no connection whatsoever to Valentine starring that guy from Angel tv series.

Has there been a dvd release in Japan yet?
Normally they are released in longer versions over there i.e Scream DC.
I taped it off one of the Sky channels late last year. I was hoping that it would be on again, as I started taping the BBCs Day of the Triffids over it last week, as I thought that I'd have MBV on DVD this month.
off topic, but did you know uk gold CUT day of the triffids last week!

The first episode? Where?
It's on Sky again next week (23rd Jan). Movies Max 5 at 3.30am.
Radio Times have given it * out of *****
... now apearing here (http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/222358) at EzyDVD for the R4 version (7th March) for anyone who can't wait until June. Works out £8.09 plus delivery.
Just thought it worth mentioning that MVC have My Bloody Valentine on the shelves now. It was racked next to April Fools Day, in the new releases bit.
Interesting to see that they both only warrant a 15 certificate now...

I emailed them a couple of weeks ago because their website said that it was in stock. I got the reply, "No we don't have it in stock. You are able to place a pre-release order now but, in common with ther other sites you have seen, ours clearly states a release date of 30 June 2003." So there! It didn't at the time, but now it does say Release date: 30 June 2003.
Same for April Fools Day. I can't believe that it's exclusive to just their stores and not their website.
According to Paramounts PR 'My Bloody Valentine' has been pulled from the schedule with no new release date set.
So if it is available anywhere I would grab it fast.
My R4 has now turned up from EzyDVD. 1.78:1 as expected as opposed to the R1's 1.85:1. Haven't had a chance to see if it's dual-encoded yet, but it looks like it's the same as the planned R2 release.
