Question:
Hey,
Now I know this was cut by British Censors to avoid a "15" rating. I know that 2 scenes for definate were cut, the first "sacrifice" scene where that chap with the horn-helmet rips out that guys heart (which we don't see) , and we see a longer scene of him burning as he falls into that lava.
And secondly the scene where Short-Round is being whipped by baddies and Jones says the line "leave him alone you ********", which is on the VHS 1999 release as an "extra".
So does anyone know SPECIFICALLY which scenes are cut, and how much does the cut footage amount to?
Cheers.

Can't remember the exact link name though.
sorry
On the original VHS release of TOD, the hart taking is shown. I know they removed it from the TV versions of the movie but when did they decide to remove it altogether?
From melonfarmers:
1:06s cuts for both cinema and video
Cuts to a close-up of a heart being ripped from the chest and the subsequent self healing of the chest wound.
The deletion of the line 'Leave him alone you ********' when the Chinese kid is about to be whipped
Deletion of the Chinese Kid burning a guard's stomach with a flaming torch (and hence discovering an ability to heal)
The sequence in which a sacrifice victim is being lowered into the fiery pit has been shortened and set to different music.
Cut to the first 1s or 2s from the shot of his fall in order to delete the image of his head hitting the side of the cliff.
Note, the Leave him alone you ******** line is heard in the 'behind the scenes' documentary on the recently re-released tape, although the line is still cut in the main film!
The American decision to rate the film PG caused huge controversy in the US at the time. In fact, the controversy over the PG rating (which was seen by many as the MPAA caving in to Spielberg and corporate pressure) was largely responsible for the introduction of the PG-13 certificate.
In the UK today, the uncut version would now be considered as 12 or even 12/15 borderline. The PG version is still considered to be one of the stronger PGs ever certificated by the BBFC and has generated more complaints than most over the years.
The recent BBC showing is confirmed to be the cut version. The BBC in fact consulted with the BBFC to ensure that they showed the officially sanctioned cut version.
So is that it? No other scenes are cut?
Well that's the full details from melonfarmers so I would think that it covers everything.
While im no film expert i'd certainly say that frames were edited from the "wheelgrinder" scene where that bloke gets squashed, possibly the death of that "heavy" fellow when he is squished by the rolling pin grinder, possibly the fight between short-round and that prince, and I think that Mola Rams' demise when he is eaten by the crocs is cut for definate.
Well, I've got the uncut version and watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. I was really quite shocked at the brutality of it.
I remember a documentry on the special effects some years back where Spielberg added extra 'flames' to the 'pit lowering scene' to make it less brutal. Some of the more jarring edits (e.g. the "wheelgrinder" scene) may be due to this sort of self censorship??

I wanted the indy films on DVD! Hope it's true Raiders is out next October!:smokin:
In answer to your question: Not enough!
Thankfully Capshaw will be absent from the fourth movie; though why this one stinks may have something to do with it being written by the couple who also wrote, produced and directed Howard the Duck:brickwall

Micheal - Where did you get this uncut version from, I watched my copy of the recent widescreen video release and it has all the cuts mentioned above - I wouldn't mind seeing the version you are talking about.
BTW does anyone know if the much talked about special edition release of this film will be re-classified as a 12 to include these deleted scenes?
Next time its on Irish TV I'll post on the forums thespook, pop over and watch it uncut, and nicely pan & scanned.."My God, you can see his hand go right into the chest and rip out the heart!" etc.
Cool:D
I couldn't possibly comment on where I got it from at all!
Suffice to say that it was released uncut on laserdisc, and when I visited Thailand in November, someone BOOTed a copy in my direction suddenly. The DVD's are actually pretty good quality. Uncut, widescreen, 5.1 sound etc.
I cant wait for them to come out - I will be first in the line.
OK Michael - Thanks for the reply - does that mean there are legit laserdisc versions floating around somewhere then? ;)
There are indeed. Although I believe the laserdisc versions were cut In England.
Hmm. There's a laserdisc version available for download, but of course I don't approve of such things :norty:
Yeah - the DVD is available on ebay as well, but as you said - I don't approve of such things. :norty: :nono:
