Momentum's March Schedule [R2] - Some Cracking Titles
Question:

From the R2 Project ......
Momentum have announced a collection of 6 titles for release March 17th priced at just £12.99. Most notable for me is "Jacob's Ladder" which has only ever received a poor quality laserdisk release in the country, it's going to be interesting to see how this disk turns out.
Way Of The Gun - Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects), 'Way Of The Gun' stars Ryan Phillipe (Gosford Park, Cruel Intentions) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, The Usual Suspects) as two petty but violent criminals who having nothing to lose so decide to kidnap a pregnant woman (Juliette Lewis). She is being paid $1 million to be a surrogate mother to a gangster, and so they decide to gamble everything and demand a ransom of $15 million. With plenty of shootouts and car chases, the pair try to escape to Mexico with various henchmen and ruthless characters in hot pursuit.
The film was released in 2000 has a running time of 114 minutes, an 18 certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:1.85 anamorphic. Extras include director and composer's commentary, cast interviews and theatrical trailer plus cast and crew biographies.
Jacob's Ladder - Directed by Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, 9% Weeks and the recent Unfaithful) and written by Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost, Deep Impact), 'Jacob's Ladder' tells the genuinely scary story of a traumatised Vietnam war veteran, who as he returns to his civilian life begins to hallucinate. Visualising horned creatures and visited by his dead son Jacob Singer, (Tim Robbins) downwardly spirals into a life of confusion and horror as he searches for the truth behind his Vietnam experience and tries to make sense of what is happening to him. 'Jacob's Ladder' is a thriller, horror and mystery all rolled into one classic film.
The film was released in 1990, has a running time of 109 minutes, an 18 certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:1.85 anamorphic. Extras include scene selection and trailer.
The Three Musketeers - The first of two films which were originally made as one, Director Richard Lester made this adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's swashbuckling' adventure a tongue-in cheek comedy about the arrival of D'Artagnan in Paris and his effort to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a King's Musketeer. With an amazing cast starring Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain and Michael York and a stellar support cast including Charlton Heston, Christopher Lee, Faye Dunaway and Spike Milligan, D'Artagnan meets the three men who become his friends and allies through escapades and plots while trying to save the reputation of the Queen of France.
The film was released in 1973 has a running time of 103 minutes, a PG certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:1.78 anamorphic. Extras include scene selection and trailer.
The Four Musketeers - Continuing the story of Athos (Reed), Aramis (Chamberlain) and Porthos (Frank Finlay), D'Atagnan (Michael York) has now become a Musketeer. With more action and swordplay than the first, the second film sees the humour interlaced with touches of tragedy as Dumas' tale unravels and Milday De Winter exacts her revenge on the four Musketeers.
The film was released in 1974 has a running time of 103 minutes, a PG certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:1.78 anamorphic. Extras include scene selection and trailer.
Repossessed - A hilarious parody of the famous horror, The Exorcist, Repossessed stars the master of comedy spoofs Leslie Nielson (Airplane and Naked Gun) as Father Jedidiah Mayii, a priest who is suffering from a temporary lack of faith. Mayii is struggling to exorcise a demon from the married mother of two Nancy Aglet who is played by the original child star of The Exorcist, Linda Blair. Handing over responsibility for the exorcism to TV evangelists Ernest and Fanny Weller is short lived, however, as the demon turns them both into pantomime jackasses and Mayii is forced to overcome his lack of faith to complete the expulsion.
The film was released in 1990, has a running time of 81 minutes, a 15 certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:1.85 anamorphic, Extras include scene selection and trailer.
Light Sleeper - Written and directed by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver and American Gigolo), Light Sleeper revisits the theme of the loner and city life as reformed junkie and insomniac John LeTour (Willem Dafoe) makes nighttime drug deliveries to upmarket clients. John is already feeling uneasy about the morality of the business he is in when his boss Ann (Susan Sarandon) announces her plans to launch a cosmetics business. Forced to rethink his life, John's struggle to start a new life is made more complicated when he comes into contact with his ex-girlfriend who is a recovering drug addict and he becomes entangled in a mysterious murder.

Murder By Decree - Christopher Plummer and James Mason turn in fine performances as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in this entertaining murder mystery thriller about Jack The Ripper's brutal series of prostitute murders in the I 880s. With a strong supporting cast including Donald Sutherland, the film sees Holmes trying to stop Jack The Ripper's killing spree once and for all in an adventure that reaches the highest society members in the land with a conspiracy involving the Freemasons and members of the royal family.
The film was released in 1979, has a running time of 120 minutes, a tbc certificate and is presented in widescreen 16x9 1:2.35 anamorphic.

Jacob's Ladder is indeed a great film which needs a R1 release, however the R1 has a very interesting director's commentary so it will be interesting to see if this potential release has the same.

There's also a great deleted scene cut from near the end of the film on that disc so I might end up owning both if the R2 picture quality is noticeably better but lacks the extras on the R1 version

light sleeper is an unjustly ignored film from Paul Schrader's continuing critique of the underside of the American (mis)dream.
