Back to the Future R1?
Question:

Hi guys!
Have received BTTF R1 from Play yesterday, but have noticed it is a Canadian release and not the American version (it has dual English/French languages all over the packaging!)
I am sending this back as I want the American release as I had ordered and not the Canadian version...
Can anyone advise me where I can order the American R1 version so that it will get to me before Xmas?
I think there are a few suppliers that have R1 stock here in the UK and therefore will arrive faster than ordering from the states and getting it delivered from the US.
Can anyone suggest anywhere (other than Play! Grrr!)

Play get all there dvd's from canada. What made you think it was going to be the us release from them???
you could try ********* for the us version but it £39.99:shocker:

Do Play put a disclaimer on their site about multilingual covers? I havn't ordered from them in a while.

Answers:

No they don't.
But the real problem is that the pictures they display on their website always show the US cover and never the bilingual cover which IMHO borders on fraud.
They should either start selling the US version or put the Canadian covers on their website.

Gazbar i suggest ********* for the R1 USA.. but it's expensive at £40 but not many suppliers sell USA version but get the stuff from Canada because it's cheaper for them and us but crap French rears it's head.. (LOL)

well, of course, you ordered the Region 1 version, but this includes both the USA and Canada. I agree that it's very naughty of Play to show images of US versions but supply Canadian versions, but you did not order the USA R1 - you ordered the R1 (unspecified source).
Sadly, there are too few decent US suppliers out there who can avoid customs extras. ********* are the obvious, along with say Amazon.com although, of course, this title may well attract extra costs... You could also have a look at http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com who I've used recently and are very good - you pay more, but if you want to avoid bilingual covers, you have to expect that!

If you push the "Buy this" (or whatever it's called) button under a picture of the US R1 DVD and then get the Canadian one - isn't that fraud ?

What are they like regarding custom charges ?

Answers:

CD-WOW seem to be stocking mostly US discs nowdays. My recent orders from them: LOTR:EE and Glengary Glen Ross were both US and not Canadian.

Why not go for Amazon.com and use Share The Love and a $5 off $35 coupon?

erm, difficult to say really. They re-ship via Europe, but the last thing I had through was via Basel, Switzerland, not part of the EU so subject to customs. Thankfully, everything recently has come through fine (including my ET Gift Set and the 5 disc LOTR!)
They used to re-ship via Germany so a much better bet and hopefully they'll go back to that soon.
Not ordered much >£18 for a bit now so it may have changed....

They only seem to stock the R2/4 version of BTTF

i too was unfortunate enough to have got the Canadian version from futureent.com even though i knew of them being like Play.. yet i wasn't aware of there being an issue with bi-lingual as usually ********* will offer the canadian version if there was an issue.. yet they were only offering one version at £40.. and the £28 just shot up my impulses.
In the end i couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to sell on etc.. or returning it. And have just kept it.
But i totally agree with everyone here that this is bordering on fraud, unless off course they say somewhere... 'art may differ from final product'. But if they don't then it's poor on their part, as no dount they are many unsuspecting consumers who won't know about this whole bi-lingual issue until it's too late.
********* know how to treat us though in this respect, and SvenL if you don't mind spending an extra £10 to avoid the hassle of customs etc.. and 100% guarantee you're getting the US version, then send yours back to play... and order from MT :)

I was waiting to see if something like this would come up and then order. Now I am reconsidering the R2 option. BTW, has anyone checked whether the R1 (Canadian or US) has English subtitles (not closed captions). The evidence seems to be inconclusive on this one...
Thanks

Do the canadian discs substitute the option of the original Dolby score for a french track?

Skipping the whole issue of legalities in being sent Canadian discs instead of US, you do realise that the discs themselves are exactly the same?
Why not just wait (until dvdcoverart.com re-appears) and replace the bi-lingual cover with a self-printed US version?

Do any Canadian DVD sites feature billingual cover pics?

Answers:

www.boxoffice.com have recently started to use the Canadian cover art on their website - at least for Back to the Future and Scorpion King.
@tj_director: I haven't bought the R1 from play - I was just agreeing with Gazbar about this issue.
Regarding ********* - I've made some bad experiences with them so I'm back with amazon.com for R1 discs - I have to pay custom charges but at least I get my order in a reasonable amount of time and it's decently packaged.
