panic room 2 disc version
Question:

Anyone know when they are going to release the new version of panic room on a 2 disc dvd set with loads or extra stuff on? I rememebr when the original DVD came out that the plan was to release a feature heavy special edition set in the future, but i havnt heard anything since then.
Also - same question for the sum of all fears - at the moment its quite a lame DVD with not much on - any ideas if i should just buy this or wait until a new version may be released?

and Resident Evil too :D

As Panic Room is nothing more than an entertaining piece of fluff it doesn't really need a SE in my view - the current release is more than adequate :)

If only classics got special edition treatment there would be hardly any DVDs released :)

Well Amazon.de is listing a 2 disc version of Resident Evil coming out in March 2003 (the same time as the UK retail version is released). No supplements are listed.
However, Amazon.fr is listing a Resident Evil release in January which includes not only the exact same supplements as the R1 special edition but also Full Screen and Widescreen transfers (so I would guess this is a 2 disc set too).
It seems likely the German release will be the same as the French - ie nothing new.
But for the UK Pathe have a good record of exclusive R2 supplements, Dog Soilders being their latest example. Being a Paul Anderson repeatedly states the extra commentary and alternative ending etc have been recorded/edited etc - lets hope Pathe include them on a 2 disc retail release in March.

A very pertinent point
It was my subliminal way of saying that I wouldn't be buying any SE re-issues of Panic Room :dork:

Panic room seemed to divide people quite alot - some thought it was fantastic (like me, who could barely breath or blink through it in case i missed soemthing) and others thought it was pretty average....
However.... i'd still like to know if im gonna be abke to get a souped up SE version of the film...... and the same for sum of all fears....
There is nothing worse (DVD wize at least) than buying a DVD of a move you love and then having a better version come out of it.....

Panic Room was IMO a well acted tense triller.
Anyway I want a SE of Panic Room to go with my Se7en and Fight Club DVD's. Come to Think of it wasnt there gonna be a 2-disc SE of The Game too?
Alien 3 might even get 2 disc treatment in 2003!

I wouldnt hold my breath on another edition of THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, the current release is a decent enough release not to warrant a second, with 2 commentaries and making of's etc.
Last i heard about Panic Room SE was a rumoured first half of 2003 date for a R1 release, around Feb i think it was.

It's a Fincher movie and deserves a decent treatment. I'd buy the current version at £7 though, as it's half the package I expect! :p

Is he that good??
I have to say that The Game and Seven were excellent but I'm sure he's made some crap movies as well. In my opinion guys like David Lynch, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Martin Scorcese to name but a few are in a class of their own.

I think Fincher has proved to be as interesting a director as any of those.
HOWEVER, he has more importantly proved that he knows how to do a VERY good commentary and put together an SE DVD set that is worth owning, which is part of my reason for saying what I did.
Seven and Fight Club (R1) represent two benchmark DVDs to my mind and I'm sure to many others.

Have to agree with you there Theo, I think the commentary he did on Seven was one of the best I've heard by any directors. I don't usually pay any attention to commentaries and they usually bore me, but Fincher did a really good one on Seven.
