Question:
The Ceefax DVD page (579) has the results of the readers poll for 2002 - you had to nominate just one DVD as the best release of the year.
Unsurprisingly, Lord Of The Rings was top (27%), Star Wars II was 2nd (7%), but amazingly given the price, Band of Brothers was in third (5%)!!!!!!
Not only that, but the bottom third of sub page 6 is devoted to MY comment on Band Of Brothers.
Just thought I'd gloat a bit:D
i have to admit the guy that does the dvd ceefax page does seem to know what he is talking about for once(compared to say, the computer game section!)
"Ceefax", what's that ? Is it steam-powered ? ;)
:D
Mike.
oh i yeah I regularly look at that bit, for the slightly less antiquated (ie digital) its on the BBC text service in Entertainment and Films
The Ceefax DVD pages are surprisingly good, often urging people to use online sites to save money and go for the R1 if it's better.
Don't get me started on the games pages with Gibbon though.

That's what I'd hoped BBC4's DVD Collection would be about; I like the features they do do, but it would be nice to have some DVD info as well - for example, after their feature on Beijing Bicycle, it would have been a good opportunity to look at the different releases available worldwide.
lol at Harsin, yeah Gibbon is a joke.
i remember one of his reviews was a direct copy off Gamesdomain, i think it was Black & White.
yeah Ceefax page is pretty good when the net isnt available. But he does continually say Widescreen is good, Fullscreen is pants, whoch may be a bit misleading.
William G (does the DVD pages) also does TV pick (592) and both are very good. He's a talented writer.
And yes, David Gibbon's a nob, and writes in a fashion akin to a 9 year old boy - "Fifa is sure to be a big hit this Christmas!!!" "I like the graphics, they're very realistic. Also, the players look very life-like." etc, etc.
That's why I read Digitiser on C4. Well, it's not why I read it - I read it because it's excellent.
Is that DVD guy on the forums, probably a lurker if he is.

Make no mistake, when it first came out - Ceefax was the "Internet" of its day! I remember QUEUEING in Bedford Central Library waiting to use their state of the art Ceefax equipped telly. This was in its infancy, when hardly anyone had a teletext set at home.
The DVD page on Ceefax is actually quite surprising in that it's quite good!
However, I agrre with the comments regarding the Games page - I haven't seen such mindless crap since I mistakenly watched an episode of Richard And Judy.
