Five Star Fox Collection
Question:

I was just wondering if the extras and as a dvd as a whole of INDEPENDENCE DAY is the same. I own the R2 version which is a two disc special edition with a slipcase.
I was just wondering is the only difference the packaging and if so is the FIVE STAR R10 collection packaging more superior to the R2 version? if so why?
Does the same apply to SPEED?
What other five star films are availble?

Answers:

Die Hard

Answers:

Literally all of Fox's "5 Star Collection" are fantastic releases and worth buying.
Die Hard Trilogy Boxset
Cleopatra
Independence Day
Speed
The French Connection Boxset
And these may as well be 5 Star Collections -
Alien Trilogy Boxset
Fight Club
Moulin Rouge
Star Wars - Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Star Wars - Episode II - Attack Of The Clones
The Abyss
Big Trouble In Little China

I have a few (Sound Of Music, Independence Day, French Connection), but despite being in nice double Amarays, they're horrid looking.
I still don't own Die Hard (one of my favourites) as I didn't like the Five Star look, and the it turned up in R2 cardboard! If I was to plump for one though (and I probably will soon) it'll be that silver Five Star look over the recycled birthday card.

Isn't MASH also a Five Star Edition!:dork:

MASH was a five-star release.
And you are right, they are now dropping them, which is a shame as the uncut True Lies was going to be a five-star release. :(

Although I'm pretty sure that this won't make too much of a difference in the quality of the special editions that Fox put out.
I mean, the only thing that will be changing is the name "Five Star Collection" - it doesn't mean that Fox will go on to release crap discs (ala Paramount with most of their back cataloogue).

Looks like we won't get the much talked about Five Star edition on True Lies.
Pity, i was looking forward to that one.

I'm sure I read on the DVD Talk Forum that True Lies is a confirmed 5 Star Release for 2003. I remember it being talked about in a Predator 5 Star thread.

A recently conducted live chat at the Home Theatre Forum here (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/files/staddon2002.txt) with 20th Century Fox's Peter Staddon sheds some light on these points. He states there will be no more 5 Star releases at all, just Special Editions up to 5 Star level and beyond.
He also states: "True lies will not be until late 2003 / early 2004 depending on when lightstorm have the time to fit in this project."
The R1 Special Edition of Preditor will be around Mid 2003, with Predator 2 before it.
Also, i was sad to hear, the Office Space SE is majorly held up and we will probably see Office Space 2 before we do this.

I was looking for to the True Lies 5* edition , but I've made do with the barebones R2 atm which is Uncut :)
I'll upgrade to the R1 when its released 2003/2004

The Region 4 is uncut. The R2 is cut so badly, James Cameron himself urged people not to buy it.

Aren't the aliens films being rereleased as Five Star special editions??

Thats what I thought , but apparently its only the LaserDisc and VHS versions which are cut , The Region 2 DVD is sourced from the same master as the the Region 4 DVD so it includes the headbutts and ear claps , have a look at this thread here (http://Here.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=140073)
and I got this quote from The Melon Farmers website
"note: The required re-editing was done by James Cameron, the director.
When rereleased on R2 DVD the cuts somehow have been forgotten about and for at least a while, the DVD is uncut."
