Answers:

well R2 and R4 are the same, so if its out of those 2 get the R4 coas its cheaper.
R1 has more extras and has commentaries on all 3 films.

Play get their specs from press releases, these are not very accurate as specs tend to change by the time a dvd is released.
The R1 Trilogy has 6 commentaries altogether:

thanks there.
So do you think the r1 is the best version out to buy then?
WIll there ever be another version of bttf? Its more expensive to buy the american release.

I would never put it past the studio to not release another version at some point. but I wouldn't expect anything for a couple of years at least.

With the dodgy framing of Parts 2 and 3, plus other audio/visual problems on my region 1 set (dodgy skin-tones on Part 1, distorted music on Part 2), I can easily see another set of these a couple of years down the line. I did pick up the region 1 for a mere £22.99 from ********* (pre-ordered just in time!), so maybe I'll treat myself to the R4 as well to see if those versions correct the above a/v faults. They do have dts as well...
The framing problem is another issue entirely, and doesn't bother me that much.

From what I've seen, it seems that the Canadian R1 version of the boxset is the same as the UK version (ie. DTS soundtracks included but less commentaries), but the US R1 version seems to have more commentaries and no DTS soundtracks.
I want the US versions but I think my usual R1 supplier (play.com) only stocks the Canadian version. I'm not sure which supplier to use in order to get the US version and avoid customs charges at the same time. ********* definitely stock the US version but want £40 for it.

WHAT !!!!!
i just ordered the canadian !!
where did you get that from ?
i was reading the HTF and someone confirmed the canadian is the same as the US, just with bilingual cover.
hmm maybe he was lying.

The Canadian version is not the same as the UK version and looks to have the same extras as the US version plus the extra language

KeyserSoze,
You might be right because I'm not entirely sure that I am. I'm going by what I've seen on various websites such as dvdboxoffice.com and play.com, which both supply Canadian discs I think. Both websites make no mention of the additional commentaries in the boxset, and dvdboxoffice even states that the discs have DTS. This alone doesn't mean that much as websites often get these details wrong. However, *********.com specifically mentions that the version of the boxset that they are selling is the US version. The fact that they made this statement made me think that perhaps the US version and the Canadian version are different.
Anyway, until I get definitive proof about this from more than one source, I think I'll hold off from buying the boxset.

Answers:

Well I shall hold off to. Let me know folks please. Cheers

Its been confirmed by Craig over at ********* that the Canadian release is exactly the same as the USA release apart from the horrid bilingual cover.

Which R1 supplier should I order from in order to avoid customs charges on this boxset?
