Question:
Has anyone had their redone Wings of Desire from Anchor Bay UK yet? I sent mine off at the start of November and there has been no word or sign of it yet. Glad I used recorded delivery...
Not yet, but I only sent it to Anchor Bay last week (recorded also). I had tried sending it back to Play first, but they just send me another faulty copy.
AB have just posted a reply on their forums here (http://www.anchorbay.co.uk/forum/showthread.php3?threadid=581&goto=newpost) that new copies will be going out on Monday... let's hope!
im being lazy here not reading all the link - but what about if you havent bought it but dont want to buy a faulty one? will they sell you one direct? or is there a way of identifying non-faulty ones on general sale? thanks!
d
May be able to tell you once I get the new version, but then again... might be worth waiting a fews weeks to be sure. You may be able to buy direct from AB?
Thats a good question davey1970, I think I am going to wait until January then hopefully the disc's should be the non faulty ones.
What was the fault?

Faulty 5.1 soundtrack. I revieved the problem disc here (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=1125&story=3812) for DVDTimes.
Anyone have the address for returns?
It's on the AB forums (see my link above) but here is AB's last post on the subject:
If you send your disc to me here at VisArt I will send you a replacement disc.
Address is
VisArt
The Studios
8 Hornton Place
Kensington
W8 4LZ
We should receive new Production copies of Wing Of Desire this forthcoming Monday.
Regards
Steve Bell
Don't forget to use recorded delivery!
ive emailed the company and they cant supply the film direct, they can only replace faulty ones.
they said when it is "back in the shops", it wont be the faulty one, which doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest.
d
Has it been withdrawn from the shops then ?
There was one in HMV last Saturday so either a new copy or not withdrawn. Just couldn't be confident that it was the right one - I've waited long enough and a little more will be nothing.

Thanks - Got my corrected copy back yesterday  Great response time.
Does anyone know if Anchor Bay will exchange disks for their oversees customers? (I'm in the US and purchased it through BensonsWorld.)
Ted
No idea - probably best to contact them via their forums (link above somewhere)...
According to DVD Reviewer (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/news/news.asp?Section=3) Anchor Bay have re-released Wings Of Desire from today.
Thanks for the pointers, everyone. I bought this last year but haven't got round to watching it yet, so I'll get it replaced before I do!
is there any obvious physical difference between the two, to help identify the fixed one in the shops? different ref numbers or anything?

ps ive emailed the company with this question will let you know.

yes how will we know what to order from play.com or amazon even? Are they recalling old stock?
Kevin
got an answer from anchor bay on this there is no way to tell between the versions, so unless you are confident that places sent faulty ones back, and im not, its just a case of sending it back to anchor bay or the whatsit company for the fixed one if you are unfortunate to get a faulty one.
d
Strange; Do a search on Woolworths site for Wings of Desire and you get two Anchor Bay versions. Woolies are calling the fixed version (with a Feb 3 release date) 'remastered' and show a completely different cover to the original. Check it out here (http://www.woolworths.co.uk/common/product.jhtml?pid=30011620) .
If the fixed disks do indeed have a new cover, then it's easy enough to suss which is which.

So many films, so little time...
And it has a different bar code as well so that should also help in telling them apart.
 That looks nothing like the fixed one I got back from AB! Guess I'll have to unwrap it and try it out.
Just received this via Amazon UK after waiting for a number of weeks where i had hoped the audio issue was being sorted out by Anchor Bay and newly corrected ones were being supplied to the various DVD suppliers.Sadly the copy i have does have the problem still with the 5.1 Dolby drop out...maybe i've just been unlucky but it seems that this hasn't been satisfactorily sorted out yet.Incidentally the cover of the DVD i have is the one that it has always been and doesn't resemble the one being advertised by Woolworths.
Anyway..whilst it is fairly annoying..i won't be sending mine back to AB to be replaced, i can live with switching over to Dolby 2.0 for about 10 minutes and also it's one of the few discs i've received lately that has been scratch free and received with the disc still in its holder.
anchor bay appear to have given the 'corrected' version a new catolugue no., i work for hmv & we have had 12 or so copies in for our sale this week & while the sleeves all have the new cat no. the discs in the box are all the old versions with faulty 5.1 tracks!. if you check the discs they have the old no. on them. have also tried ordering the full price copies & get the same faulty discs in new boxes.
Got round to checking my replacement copy last night: first off, it has the old catalogue number (...17) on both the case and on the disk; yet it does not have the 5.1 sound problem at all!
On my first disk, it went silent for about ten minutes about chapter 16 (the Nick Cave bit); I played this right through on the newer disk and it was fine.
