Question:
I say, can anyone offer an opinion on the British release (by Platinum Media) of this early Argento chiller? Information seems to be exceedingly thin on the ground. I cannot even establish if it is widescreen! (And the film has been subjected to a number of cropped releases around the world.)
I know that Anchor Bay have done some jolly nice work on their R1 edition, but in looking into prices today, I found the British release on special offer at Play for a mere £6.99. Hence the interest, old beans! :D
It's shocking. Or worse. The old UK VHS looked better. You'd be better off taping it off Film Four. Def go for the R1 Anchor Bay edition if you want this film on DVD.

I say, thanks for the reply.
That sounds perfectly horrid! I actually have the UK tape (which is cropped), and need an upgrade.
As a matter of interest, is the UK DVD also cropped, old bean?
And worse - it's cut too!
I say, cut, you say? Now there's a rum one, as the previous VHS release was passed by the BBFC without cuts. Obviously not to be trusted, these Platinum Media chappies.
Anchor Bay it is, then.
Thanks for the warnings, DCH, old bean. :)
It's not the worst DVD of the film out there - the Diamond version was cut, full screen and improperly rectified leaving the characters often looking stretched. Film Four has been showing a great print, different from the Anchor Bay one. It's a shame that wasn't the basis for the UK DVD. Oh well. Now if someone would just release Four Flies On Grey Velvet...
