Question:
Anyone know if the Band Of Brothers TIN is limited for a certain period of time? I ask because i would like the tin boxset but wont be able to get it till after christmas msot likley, and im hoping these TIn versions will still be around long enough.
Cheers ears
Yes, the tin is a ltd edition. Afterwards, it's a cardboard box.
Thought as much, thanks mate.
I thought R2 tin was limited, but the R1 is tin only.
Hmm...i am planning on getting the canadian version anyway so i hope thats true.
i planning on getting the R2, probably before christmas.
but have the tins run out already ?
if so, whats the card case like ?
i dont really mind what i get so long as the cardboard case is not too weak.
Reading some of the US forums, it seems the R1 may well be limited as well, but there are still loads of tins everywhere (although some are in the card cases)
Most of the shops that I went to on the weekend had the cardboard box versions.
That was in Kingston.
There's no way the R1 Tin is standard.
Collecters tins cost to much to make & ship so grab it now while you still can.
WHSmiths are the only high-street shop that I know of with the tin version.
Most online retailers have probably (just guessing) run out of stock by now.
GAME/EB have the tin version
:)
whats the cardboard casing like ?
and how much is it in Game/EB ?
think it's £51.99 in Game (was in swindon anyway). The tin is exceptional, really nice quality. Haven't seen the cardboard case yet.
I've got the R1 tin and it is really a lovely piece of packaging......
8-] hurries off to find and stroke his tin...... :norty: :)
Is Amazon.ca the best place to get this still for price? (inc. customs if any)
For the best price plus a tin box, yes amazon.ca is the one to go for. Having said that I have yet to receive my BOB which has been shipped since November 22. :( It probably is at Customs waiting to be stamped with 'Charge'.
well i went to the highstreet and everywhere is over £50 :(
i might just with Amazon, no custom risk only £44.99 + P&P, dont really mind if i get the cardboard case.
yeah i saw the tin, it does look nice.

You have to feel for people still getting VHS though - the VHS tin is the size of a breadbin!
Does the R2 have DTS? I've forgotten. I can't remember if that was the reason I got the R1 or if that was another DVD.... I get confused with the number of DVDs I seem to have bought recently.

I wouldn't call it flimsy..... it's very sturdy infact.
ok thanks
Amazon it is then.
Ooo also, how big is the card case ? is it the same size as the tin ?
if you goto Amazon search for BOB and click on the pic, it look kinda chunky, hope thats not the actual card case.
Not a sleeve is it?
in the pic it looks like a sleeve, but it still looks chunky.
Is the R2 tin different to the R1 version? The one I saw in WH Smiths was twice the height of my R1 copy, and frankly it didn't look as good. :dork: :noid:
From what I can remember the R1 and R2 tin are exactly the same. And has anybody done a search for the tin on Ebay? The tins are going for £90 and counting:eek:
im getting the R2 tin for christmas, and it is absolutely massive, u could live in it:eek:
See that's what I mean, you can't live in the R1 tin. :D
Surely WH Smiths wouldn't have had a 'display' tin and the real smaller version out the back?
I stand corrected if that is true. Can't understand why they would want to make it bigger considering you are getting exactly the same as the R1. Plus the extra cost of making two different sized tins... it beggars logic!!!
i think people are getting it confused with the VHS tin, i know i did !
i thought it was so big cos you got each episode in its own Amaray case LOL.
You're right, this is what I saw:

nope its the dvd
just got my dad to double check
phew
but it was the VHS tin you saw before right ?
i just saw it in the shop and am almost positive the DVD one was quite a large mutha
I bought it today from Asda, we went for a cup of tea after and I while I was looking at it I noticed it said VHS :brickwall
Got a refund but it looks it's sold out everywhere on R2. I asked if they had a DVD tin and was told they sold the last yesterday :(
Do Amazon.ca still have the Tin version? Think I'll e-mail them first to make sure.

Let us know what they say mate, i'd like to know if they will have the tin in stock after chrimbo

Why can't companies just answer the question
How hard can it be to say whether it's a tin or not. Or at least say they currently have the tin version but can't guarantee a copy just to cover themselves.
Instead I got this.
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.ca.

that excerpts, and reviews are very important to buyers, and we will
continue to explore new ways to provide customers with this kind of
valuable information.
Thanks again for shopping at Amazon.ca."
Looks like I'll just have to take a chance and hope it's a tin and keep my fingers crossed with regards customs.
Even if it gets stung at customs (as long as you use standard shipping and not a courier) it will come to about £45 which is still cheaper than anyone else.
If it isn't a tin (which it is very likely to be by all accounts) then you can complain to amazon.ca that they didn't sell you what their site said they were selling and get a full refund (including all shipping/return costs)
I'm pretty sure you will get the tin version though. If you order soon you should hopefully get it before Xmas.
Good luck :)
Dont forget your discount codes, get it for about £35 exl cutoms charges :D
p.s. I got caught, the postie didn't ask for the money :D
Just ordered it for a total of $96.97 and this works out at around £39.
Anyone know how much a customs charge would be if it gets stopped?
17.5% of (3.5% of £39) + Royal Mail admin charge (usually about £3.85)
= £8.43 + £3.85
= £12.28
The price at amazon.ca & exchange rates must have changed. When I ordered at the beginning of November it was about £35 (without customs charges). £39 is still a great price though!
I wonder if Amazon use DHL for their courier shipments to the UK ?
The reason I ask is that DHL seem to invoice any Customs charge after they have delivered the goods - at least one person has said they just ignored this invoice and eventually they just gave up (as opposed to taking you to court !)
Now of course its illegal not to pay the charge but if you were the sort of person who was willing to risk this then this is worth considering if you did a big order (i.e. the shipping cost per item wasn't too bad)
Also I know this is going off at a tangent a bit but can someone explain the reason behind customs charges ?
Of course it raises revenue for the Government but how do they justify it ? Surely they must have some so called "valid" reason for doing it ?
They do use DHL for expedited shipping.
That's the reason I always say to go for the standard delivery option ($6.98) as that way you minimise customs costs.
Are you saying DHL charge a bigger Customs handling fee ????
Got mine from Amazon.ca last Friday ordered on Tuesday (so only 3 days to arrive).
- It came in a tin
- Cost £39.52 with the C$10 voucher (in bargain forum) and going for the cheapest postage C$6.98 (says 6 - 8 weeks but as above came in 3 days). The £ price was with a Nationwide CC so no foreign currency surcharge.
- No customs charge
- In perfect condition (very well padded with those plastic air cushions in a cardboard box)
