Bloody hell - a reissue of this??!!
Question:

From davisdvd.com..
Coming up in 2003: All That Jazz, Cocoon, Cocoon: The Return, Laura, My Darling Clementine and a BIG TIME reissue of the Alien Collection with all-new special features. Stay tuned for further details as they emerge!
:shocker: THEY HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!! Am I gonna have to put my legacy collection up for sale??!!

Answers:

Yes, rumors of that have been around for at least a year and a half. Five Star editions of at least the first 2 movies.
I'm glad to hear, my fav childhood movies, the films that started all this craze.

Thank God i put off buying the collection. I always felt that Aliens was shortchanging us in the extras department. Alien 3 surely David Fincher would never touch that film again? Did he not detest the whole experience.
Looking forward to this with a great deal of anticipation.
Cheers

There are lots of others that could touch it, dig around, and make a nice SE for us.

Rumours I've heard about this so far - 2 disc editions for each film, shedloads of extras plus a ninth bonus disc. DTS soundtracks. Seamless branching theatrical/special edition for Aliens.
One of the less credible rumours is that Alien 3 will feature a Fincher approved cut :oh-hum: I really can't see this ever happening as Fincher has practically disowned the film and has been quoted as saying he'll never revisist it. Add to that the fact that a lot of the stuff he wanted to do was never even filmed and it looks even less likely. Although, having said that, there's the oft mentioned workprint version which, while supposedly very rough and of low quality, is meant to be interesting and indicative of how much better the film could've been if it wasn't for studio interference. Now that would make a killer extra :)

ehhh 9 disc set, i dont know about killer package, thats gonna be a killer price. hope there available individually!

Answers:

They're only rumours, but a 9 disc doesn't sound implausible. After all they've got to try and make people upgrade from the already very good boxset to this new one.

i aint upgrading nothing !!

i bought them seperately (swiped the extras disc from the rental copy at work:D ) so i might well upgrade aliens, and if the alien 3 workprint is there then i'd upgrade that too. alien has everything i want on it and i only bought ressurection to complete the set.
BTW fox has recently put an end to 5star editions so they will only be 2 disc SE's but they do have a nasty hbit of deleting things over at fox so i wouldn't expect them to be around forever.

Answers:

Alien is a fairly good DVD in it's own right, but I agree that Aliens could do with a bit of an upgrade.
Not really interested in new versions of the other two - unless Alien 3 has a Fincher approved cut (which we know won't happen).

Answers:

oooh! any details on "Laura"?
also I assume that "All that Jazz" will be the same as the what's already been released in Regions 2 & 4?

Answers:

There is no chance that Alien 3 or 4 will receive 2-disc editions.
There has always been talk of an Alien re-release & Aliens SE is fairly bare so I'd imagine a re-release of the boxset will at best be - A 2-disc version of Alien, with Aliens containing a bit more bulk and Aliens 3 and 4 receiving nothing more than DTS tracks.

What are you talking about, it's almost barebones. Only cool menus.

What are you talking about, it's almost barebones.
Off the top of my head:
Ridley Scott commentary,
Isolated score,
On-set audio track,
Deleted Scenes (with optional commentary I think)
and if you bought the boxset then the Alien Legacy disc is the perfect companion for it.
Personally, I will wait and see what's new in this reissue and then decide about which discs I'll upgrade.

No, your Legacy collection will become a collectors item! ;)
Any more news on the new editions of the Alien films?

Answers:

seem to remember doing a thread bout this kind of thing-repackaging and remarketing the same old films over and over and over............:nono:

just to add....how many people really watch all the new extras any more than 2/3 times anyway??:oh-hum:

Answers:

I'll certainly buy the special re-issue, but I won't be paying a penny more than the current box set, which cost me 9.99 at Woolies :)

Answers:

only just got the Legacy and for less then £30 it was well worth it ... I wont be changing it.

I don't watch most extras once, but when it comes to your favourite, favourite movies, it is great if they come with an abundance of extra material which Aliens does not.

Answers:

As did not buy the legacy set I will buy this superiour version instead.
Im glad I waited.

I'm not buying the legacy box set again.

I picked up the first three movies on R1, and I have the NTSC laserdiscs of Aliens (theatrical version) and Alien:Resurrection. And I'm still gonna upgrade if the next set is different! DTS, branching on Aliens, DC for Alien3, oh yeah! They'll probably be just repackaged discs to coincide with Alien vs. Predator, of course, but it's nice to dream.

Answers:

DTS is worth the upgrade alone i admit
