Question:
Cult filmmaker Kevin Smith has been enlisted to pen the next installment of the Scary Movie franchise - according to American entertainment bible Variety. Smith, who has just finished shooting Jersey Girl with Hollywood supercouple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, will be working with three other screenwriters including Brian Lynch, Pat Proft and Craig Mazin. Airplane! helmer David Zucker will direct the film, although the Wayans brothers who were involved with both other outings are not on board. Smith says, "It is an honor to be involved with David, one of the creators of Airplane!, which is arguably the funniest movie of all time. Our aim is to make this third in the franchise as funny as that other hysterical third-in-the-franchise flick, The Godfather Part III."
According to IMDB it's called "Scary Movie Episode I - Lord of the Brooms "
The first two where crap, i wobder if kevin smith can pull this one back and make a good film out of it.
"Scary Movie Episode I - Lord of the Brooms "

I really hope that with this team behind it it will be a superb movie. Time will tell....
i still wont watch it.

Why? Please elaborate? Do you not like Airplane or any of the KS movies?
simply because Scarey movie 3 even written by the best script writer is still going to be a stupid gross out comedy with no regocnisable plot.

And... Sometimes a stupid comedey is all I want for 90 minutes or so. NO need to think about anything just a few jokes strung loosley together. If it makes me laugh a few times its a winner IMO as a comedy! I wont say it will be a great comedey without a decent plot but still a good way to pass 90 minutes
well good for you.
I'm not a huge fan of these films, but I must admit they're entertaining, if only to see how many film rip-offs they can fit in. And KS movies are *so* funny. This one will be worth watching :)
Kevin Smith ruined the Stan Lee interview disc in the Spider-Man set cos all he did when Stan Lee was talking was say -
"Yeah"
"Uh Uh"
Ruined a perfectly good disc!
:( :( :(
I suppose he got to pay for those J-Lo video games some how.
The films a spoof of Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter (Can't see what's Scary about that?).
I've already seen Dungeons and Dragons surley that stole all the good gags.
:shocker:
I wonder if he'll write in any cameos for his 'Jersey Trilogy' characters?
I'm not too sure about the new spoof idea. I hope this doesn't turn into a long franchise where they spoof whatever's popular at the minute.
Look at www.moviepoopshoot.com - it isn't KS himself from what I can gather, it's just someone who used to write for poopshoot... once again 'net rumours out of control?
arent the Wayans involved with this one anymore? :(

No, so this one might be good.
The first movie was actually quite funny but I think the Wayans got most of it from a rival scriptwriter's abandoned project called <i>Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween</i> (ie. the Wayans just added all the gross-out jokes).
<i>Scary Movie 2</i> was written entirely by the Wayans and was just plain awful.
I hope Kevin Smith does a grand job. The <i>Scream 4</i> rip-off in <i>Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back</i> was smashing!
I enojyed both 1 and 2, both hilarious in my opinion.....:D , it's someimtes nice just to switch your brain off for an hour or so....
I enjoyed no.1 and loved the opening of SM 2 but after about 15 minutes the film just takes a massive dip into a pit of crap. Kevin Smith writing the next installment will be interesting, and certainly gets me intrigued.
Kevin Smith cant write over the top gross out comedy, as the travesty that is jay and silent bob strikes back shows!

That film exists and is on a par with Scary Movie 2 for crapness, but SM2's opening makes the Wayans' effort the better one.
From IMDB...
The script for Scary Movie is actually a combination of two scripts Dimension Films bought in 1998: "Last Summer I Screamed Because Halloween Fell On Friday The 13th" written by the Wayans brothers and Phil Beauman; and "Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween" by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. The latter was the working title for this project.
Wando:
No, the film you're getting mixed up with is the equally lame <i>Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th</i> with Tom Arnold :(.
Arch:
Cheers mate. Couldn't remember where I actually saw it, lol...
What about Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0212235)

That's GREAT! Kevin Smith and one of the Zuckers might actually make a funny installment. The first 2 were extremely stupid, Wayans suck.
