Question:

Hi there,
on digital bits i saw them mention an upcoming "El Mariachi SE" and cover art being on their site. But I can't see any art for it and no news of it at all. any ideas anyone? cheers :)

Answers:

hmmm.. news to me!
Does El Mariachi really need a S.E? The Double feature El Mariachi/Desperado disc is awesome.

Answers:

You reckon there will be a Desperado SE aswell? (hope so)

Answers:

i have the double pack which is very good, but who knows... lets wait and see... maybe they'll release a box set with mariachi se, desperado se and ocne upon a time in mexico se

Answers:

i actually prefer El Mariachi to Desperado, if it does happen, id buy it !

Answers:

yeah Mariachi is a much more interesting film because of that $7,000 budget! And the commentary is fascinating, and the boom rebel without a crew is a must-read for any young film-maker or anyone who wants to get into film!!! :)

Answers:

yeah, i've got the book. It's a great read. Rodriguez is my fav director.

Answers:

Rodriguez is definately not my fav director, however he's one thats influenced me to make films the most, simply becaus eof his incredible book and phenomenal success story, mariaachi and desprado had gr8 direction, however i was disappointed with dusk til dawn (the 2nd half) and spy kids. The faculty was resonable and roadracers was quite fun but nothing amazing. However, very talned regardless, he's almost formed his own style along with tarantino, and has influenced me so much being a film student, really cool guy for sure. Everyone who wants to make films must read rebel withour a crew, such an amazing book!!!

Answers:

yeah i was disappointed with FDTD as well, everyone else seems to rave about it.

Answers:

yeah, I loved the first half, but as soon as they turn into vampires!! it gets really really bad, almost laughable. which is a shame coz it set out to be a superb hip thriller!

Answers:

Blame Tarantino for the 2nd half, he wrote the film, Rodriguez simply directed it & even if you don't like the Vampire ending there's no denying Rodriguez's handling of the action is near faultless.

Answers:

Jimmyboy: true enough, he does handle it well, I guess it's all Tarantino's film!

Answers:

Considering that I don't really like most horror and vampire flicks I really enjoyed FDTD. I have to agree about the second half though, even though it was well done love the shotgun crucifix I would have enjoyed it just as much, if not more, if it hadn't involved vampires.
I had expected not to like the film, but was most pleasantly surprised - and the documentary on the SE is really good too.

Back to El Mariachi...
Do we need a special edition considering the version already out covers the film really well?

Answers:

i dont think one is needed.
but if its good enough, i would buy it.
i reckon they should package it with Rodruguez' book, maybe a mini version like the one with Princess Mononoke.
i was trying to buy his book, but its out of print right ?

Answers:

Theres a sequel to desperado coming out next year, so they are probably trying to cash in on that.

Well, FDTD is actually my favourite Robert Rodriguez movie, so i cant exactly understand why it's let down by a poor second half. I'm not even fond of vampire movies, but it's just the mix of witty dialogue and superb action direction, not to mention a superb and extremely cool leadng man (george clooney) make FDTD my favourite.
Of course El Mariachi and Desperado are super slick and great movies too..

EL MARIACHI
Columbia Tristar will be releasing director Robert Rodriguez's filmed-on-a-shoestring-budget El Mariachi on February 4th. This release will feature the same specs as the the already available double feature release (with it sequel Desperado). To be more specific, look for a widescreen anamorphic transfer, DD 5.1 tracks, a mess of subtitles, an audio commentary from Rodriguez, the short film Bedhead, the “10-Minute Film School,” and trailers.

Fear not no need to get rid of th esuperb double discer of El Mariachi/ Desperado unless you want the added 5.1 track.
And bloody roll on Once Upon A Time In Mexico. I can't wait. :D
All i want for Christmas is a trailer.

Answers:

if it's identicle (cept for the 5.1 track), what's the point of releasing an S.E? Seems very odd to me..
The double discer is never that expensive anyway, and can be picked up for a decent price in most sales/bargains..

Answers:

release the book with it !!!
anyone know where i can pick up the book ?

Answers:

i got mine about 2 years ago i think (cant believe it's been that long ago!) from Waterstones.. it's certainly news to me that it's gone out of print!

It does seem to be rather pointless. I'm not convinced that this film needs a 5.1 track - In fact, I think it might seem out of place. The cynic in me thinks it's just a ploy to get people to buy it again :|
I bet the 5.1 remix cost more to record than the $7000 total budget of the original movie.
