Question:
Have noticed when watching MINORITY REPORT there are scenes where it freezes for a couple of seconds. Then i also noticed this FREEZE in other dvd titles that i own such as LOTR extended version and also THE USUAL SUSPECTS!!!
But i also notice the usual suspects freezed at the exact same scene in another copies??!!!
So does anybody know whats this freeze on dvds about???
It's the layer change where the player's laser switches disc layers, don't worry it's perfectly normal.

I have read (but not experienced) that there are very odd occasions where (in an attempt to place layer changes in as unobtrusive a position as possible) DVDs are mastered with 2 layer changes (ie A to B then back again). Very rare though. Indeed, very rare that much consideration at all is given to the position of layer changes.
my old bush player would freze on discs at random moments, (more than once a disc) but for longer than a second. it turned out the chip i had installed was over heating, someone stuck a fan (computer type) by it in the case and it works fine now
The only DVD I know that has more than one layer change is the first 'Robocop' film in the Robocop Trilogy boxset. It has the option of playing both the original version film or the directors cut. Everyone assumed it would have utilised seamless branching, but just before its release it was reported that it will NOT use seamless branching, a few pre-release reviews confirmed this. The result is, if you choose to play the directors cut, you will notice a layer change type pause before any reinserted scenes. I think it happens about 3 times during the film.
Donnie Darko (R1) has 2 layer changes. Or perhaps it has a third layer??
Watched my free fox DVD "What Lies Beneath" last nite and the layer change is really noticeable on there....
(I thought the film sucked also: the price was right tho ;) )
I was watching Young Guns and the film freezes but sound is still on for about 4 seconds.
