Eastern Heroes DVD's / HKL
Question:

Hi.
I just got my new HKL catalogue through the post, and saw their Eastern Heroes / Jackie Chan collection at the back of the catalogue. The question is... Are these DVD's any good? I'm a Jackie fan, but I'm a bit worried by the fact that these are not actual HKL releases... Any help?
Thanks!!

I've heard they are bloody awful (remember reading a warning on a HK movie site) some of the films are full screen versions which have been Matted into a widescreen ratio. But hopefully someone else can confirm how Bad or Good they are

Confirmed here. They should be at the very top of your 'Avoid Like The Plague' list. All are dubbed, have abysmal quality and as captaineyecatch said, they've been matted from a 4:3 pan & scan print to form a 16:9 "anamorphic" picture. :brickwall

Yes they are really bad.
However I did read a report that the DVD's that are packaged as a box set MVC exclusive are different and are mostly uncut (with the exception of Dragon Fist) and most of them 2.35:1.
I haven't got round to buying a set yet but there was screenshots of them posted up at another forum and they looked quite good - VASTLY superior to the POS DVD's they sell seperately....

Any info on if the MVC ones are in the original language as well?

No they're dubbed, the original post's here: http://www.bulletsnbabesdvds.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB_14&file=index&action=viewtopic&topic=5088&60534 but the screenshots links are broken.

Is this THE 'Eastern Heroes'? As in the 'Eastern Heroes' of the 90's who did those wonderful film shows at 'The Scala' in London? Ruled over by Rick Baker (now 'Kung Fu Rick' I notice!! :) )??
I had no idea they were still going...some of their early 'made in HK' VHS were excellent. Their releases of the outstanding "Chinese Ghost Story" and "Bullet in the Head" were the only way to see these in the West in really nice, uncut prints if you did not own a laserdisc player. Still the only UK versions ever released.
And i've still never seen another release of the wonderful "Barefoot Kid" in the UK.
I thought they had packed up a few years back.??

Cheers for the info... I will be avoiding like the plague... :D
