[R1] Roger Avary's & Bret Easton Ellis' The Rules of Attraction DVD on Feb. 18!
Question:

I wanted to see this in the cinema, but it was only shown for a week at one of my fav theaters and when I came on the last day, last showing to catch it, the projector's bulb went dead. But those theatrical to DVD windows are sure getting much smaller, I'll be able to see it on or around 18th in about 2 months already!

Uncut? Or the edited R-rated cut?

Answers:

I think this is the R rated cut.
Don't hold me to it, but I think the uncut version is coming out at a later date. I also heard something about it having deleted scenes and a commentary from Brett Easton Ellis!
Saw the (not very good) trailer for this in the cinema the other day, anyone know when the British release date is?

Answers:

UK cinema release date is 28 March. I've just been sent a press release for the film, featuring two shagging teddy bears...

It's definetly the R rated cut but where did you hear about an unrated version coming out later?
How cool is that, you can have a DVD a month before it comes out in theaters!

Answers:

Well I couldn't remember where I first heard that, so I did a quick search on google and came up with this from the director own website:-
http://www.avary.com/rogeravary/journal/journal.php
(the information about the DVD's near the bottom)
To summarise, he says "I imagine they will eventually [release the unrated version], but I haven't heard a date yet." so it could be a bit of a wait.
Also he say the R rated version is Dolby 2.0, while the unrated version is Dolby Digital 5.1 phantom Mono-SR (whatever that is... but it's better than 2.0).
Finally, it's uncut in Britain! Yay!

So this is like "American Psycho" all over again - where the 18 rated UK version was the full & proper version and actually ended up being more uncut than the un-rated US version! (okay so there was only one word in it but whose being pedantic!) making the UK dvd the one to get in the end (even if it was from EiV).
I'm guessing the un-rated version of "Rules..." will eventually come out under the 'Signature series' banner from Lions Gate (a company that seems to have fallen in love with the "double dipping" ethos).
The un-rated version is a whole 22 seconds longer according to Avery's website.
I can hardly wait.

What's cut from the R-Rated version?

Shame it's not that great a film :)

Mr Stanton's just watched this.
It is a great film.
In fact it's a fantastic film!
I highly recomened it to all you fans of films like Ghost World or Donnie Darko.
If you expect a Dawson's Creek style high school comedy your'e going to be in for a big surprise.
Whoever designed the posters and DVD cases needs a slap though. This must be the most mismarketed film since 'Wonderboys'.

I too have just watched it. It is excellent a bit sulf indulgent but still very good.

I bought this book about 10 years ago with 'Less than Zero' after reading the fantastic 'American Psycho'.
Both are still on my 'to read' shelf!
