Over at the digital bits theres a chat transcript with Peter Staddon of the 20th CF Home Entertainment.
Read it here (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/120202htfchat.html)
Some highlights,
5 star dvds brand has been dropped. Just 2 disc special editions from now on.
True Lies end of 2003, early 2004 depends on when Lightstorm Entertainment have time to help out with the DVDs
[peterstaddon] I can't really go into details yet but 2003 will be a huge year for the alien films on DVD. Can't say any more yet:)
What quite they're going to improve on I don't know...

Alien 3 Director's Cut!?
Doubt it...

Answers:

If it was filmed in 16x9 it will be released in 16x9!......I can only talk from Fox's pov but we are unwavering in our support for OAR. That does not mean that we will release Pan and Scan versions as well, but OAR will always be available.
One word: Angel

Answers:

What else could they include on the alien disks apart from DTS tracks?

Answers:

I think a DTS sound track is exactly what they will do. Also, I'm sure they could dig up a bit more stuff up to make all four films 2 diskers.

I'd re-buy "Alien 3" in a heartbeat if Fox included the "director's cut" - even if it's just rough-cut quality from a BetaSP tape!
Also "Aliens", IF they give us seamless branching for the two versions (there really is no reason why not!). Much as I like the extended version I much prefer the theatrical one in this case.
Looks like I'll be re-buying the whole boxset at this rate then!
I'm such a :dork:

Roswell held up due to music clearance costs which would currently be 1-2 million dollars
Lots of other tv series also held up because of music clearance costs.
Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel might get a 2003 release
Discontinued 2 disc SE will get re-releases every now and then (different packaging)

Bugger,
Having already bought Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 it looks as though i'll be buying Aliens and Alien 3 again at least... im such a mug :dork:
Im guessing all those dates are Region 1?

Good news about the Alien films for people who didn't get round to buying the first release like me

Cool resisted buying Alien boxset just in case they did something else with the set.
Glad i waited.
May for Simpsons 3 tho? :(

Peter Staddon says "Ally Mcbeal is held up with staggering music clearance costs"
I don't get this? Why would that ONLY affect the US? Surely music clearance costs would cover all regions & markets, otherwise it just gets ridiculous? They must have cleared them already to get releases in the UK & Australia? Then again I'm not a lawyer and know bugger all about copyright fees!
