Kiki's Delivery Service
Question:

Just watching Kiki's delivery service, about 5 minutes into it and a friend already noticed that the English Subtitles does match the Cantonese spoken on there. About half the time it's completely different to what the subtitles are! Anyone speak Japanese can verify this?

Answers:

It doesn't matter where the dubbing is done its always different from the original soundtrack and that includes cantonese dubbing.
The english subs on kiki are supposed to be a literal translation of the japanese soundtrack ...

Answers:

Why you listening to the Cantonese track on a Japanese film?

Answers:

The subs on Kiki aren't literal - they're dubtitles from an early English Dub that is not present on any DVD release. They are however apparently very close to the original dialogue.

Answers:

The cantonese track is dd5.1 ... granted there isn't much rear channel sound but it does give a more spacious feel to the film.
