Question:
from the dvd times review -
The 2.35:1 image is shifted towards the top of the screen to allow the over-large fixed subtitles to be displayed on the black bar at the bottom of the screen
does this mean that the movie is ok to view on a 16:9 TV without distorting the aspect ratio? i'm slightly peturbed by the fact that the dvd is listed as 4:3 on the AE website - does this mean it is at 4:3 albeit framed so that the 2:35 film itself is contained within and the rest of the image contains the subtitles?
thanks if you can clear this up.
The movie is anamorphic and not 4:3 as Artificial Eye list it, so there is no problem with viewing the subtitles.
You can find an alternative review of the DVD compared with the Japanese R2 on DVD Beaver (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/) (look under DVD Graphic Comparisions).
the image is basically pushed to the top of the screen (ie without the upper black bar that 2.35 films normally have on a 16:9 tv) with the subs underneath.
that was a pleasant surprise given the 4:3 sleeve info.
it is definitely anamorphicall enhanced. buy it now
I would suggest that you opt for the japanese release as the AE is without a doubt inferior. Major artifacting and soft image throughout.
yeah, i've just been reading the comparison (thanks noelm) and that is very evident - does anyone know a good japanese retailer?
also - is the japanese version in an amaray case?
