Question:
Just a question Id often wondered about.
Do any high street stores sell monday releases on the weekend before ? If so which ?
Any help most appreciated. ;)
You need to find small independent shops, as none of the big chains risk it. CEX have started selling the weekend before release. They had Spiderman and AOTC 2 days before the release date, but the prices were a bit high.
Most high stores don't I had ask this sort of similar question here &threadid=133474&highlight=is+it+against+the+law
Cheers guys
My wife is CONVINCED she saw Minority Report on sale in Sainsburys (Camberley) yesterday...
THE CINEMA STORE always sell R1 titles up to 3 weeks before release date, and occasionally some R2 titles the week before - but be warned - their R1 prices are probably the most expensive in the World!!! :oh-hum:
I got beauty & the beast about 1 week early from www.dvdimport.com
Dixons are known to sell computer games a couple of days before release too.
I have seen new releases in both W H Smiths & MVC on the friday and sometimes even he Thursday before the official release date on monday
smithy20
I saw the BTTF trilogy for sale in Basildon yesterday...
yea, Basildon market ? ;)
im pretty sure a lot of people here was saying AOTC and LOTR EE was released early in stores such as HMV.
I got Minority Report on Friday from a Family owned DVD+Game Retailer.
thats where i usually get all the good films i can't wait for.
Also get games early.
we've being selling austin powers 3 since friday
You need the smaller shops as one close to my work sells them as soon as they get them from their distributors, which can be upto a week early.
I prefer to wait and get them cheaper from the likes of Play.
Why do distributors want all shops to start selling them on the day the specify? How could shops selling early reduce the total number of discs sold?

It's not possible to ensure EVERY shop gets the discs on the same day, so to be fair they all receive them in advance but are not allowed to sell them until the release date. Distributors are very strict about this, and you can be sure if one shop in an area is selling early the Distributors will be getting phone calls from lots of other local store managers! (or they'll ALL put them on the shelves!)
Imagine you own shop A and shop B put AOTC on the shelves and you haven't even received yours yet...
Why should anyone have to wait until Monday anyway ? The shops all get their stock on Friday ,Distributors should release all films for sale on Friday/ Saturday thats when everyone has their dosh (payday) and most people are out shopping then by the time Monday comes round everyones skint. So you have to wait until the next payday to buy !!!!!
I think the reason they release DVD and Video's on Monday is because new cinema releases are on friday, and they don't want people sitting at home when they could be in the cinema.
