Question:
Has anyone bought Name of the Rose on DVD yet?
If so, What's the picture quality like, is it anamorphic widescreen?
This DVD seems to be available from only a few online retailers, like CDwow and the fact that amazon.com doesn't stock is seems slightly suspicious to me.
I haven't been able to find any reviews for this yet so any info appreciated
...the SEARCH function (should you ever decide to use it) is your friend...!...

There is an Italian edition that's just been released. Two disk with English audio and - I believe - an anamorphic transfer.
Looks like it may be superior to the Brazilian R4.
Steve
I see the italian edition here (http://www.dvd.it/index.cgi?sid=1931064358&prep=welc&page=dett&arti=24217)
Anyone know an italian?!! What extras are bundled?!

Using the on-line translation facility on altavista, the details given are about the plot of the film and not the extras. The viewers comments also centre on the transaltion from book to film and not the extras....
No joy on the 2nd disk, then, I'm afraid.
Steve
Cheers anyway Steve!

it is down for a tentative UK release by Warner in Nov 2003.
Seems reasonable as the current dire version is from the same company as Once Upon a Time in America and this is being released by Warner here in June 2003. Also OUTIA has recently be reclassified by the BBFC with Warner as the rights holder so looks like they may well have Name of the Rose as well.
However am not hopefully you will get any more than anamorphic video and trailer.
Italian DVDs often feature dubs with no alternative track so I'd research that Italian release properly before ordering.
Eco-related... was I right in hearing that some fool has finally got the go ahead to film 'Foucault's Pendulum'? (it was a potential Kubrick project for a while, so the rumours go)

Audio Format: ITALIAN 5.1 ENGLISH 2.0
Subtitle language: Italian
Dubbing language: Italian, English
Real question is: Are the subs locked or not when watching the English version?
