Question:
Lo guys,
I want to get Leon: International Remastered Edition but I know that there are 2 versions & one of them has screwed audio. Thing is, is that both Playcentric & Amazon.ca have 2 different versions of it listed
The one's on Amazon have the following different ASINS:
ASIN B00004YYDI
ASIN B00004TWZG
And Playcentric has the following different audio details:
Sound: Surround
Sound: Stereo
Sound: AC3
Recording Mode: Dolby Surround
This version is Unrated
------------------------------------------------------
Sound: Surround
Sound: Digital
Sound: Stereo
Sound: AC3
Recording Mode: Dolby Surround AC-3
This version is rated R (MPAA)
I will be very grateful for some help on this as I don't want to get the one with the hammered audio
Whats the problem with the Audio?
I just ordered it from Play yesterday I hope I get the ok version
Dont know about the sound but the unrated one is the international version. The sound on my Leon international version is fine.
Whats the problem with the Audio?
There is a problem with the L & R rear channels on the 5.1 mix of the dodgy version :( so that's why i'm being careful about buying it
OK they are both listed as the directors cut and both reel in at 133 minutes
Unrated: http://www.playcentric.com/dvd/product.asp?product_id=D%5FCTDVD06196%5F043396047303&artist_id=57839&manufacturer_id=&artist_name=DVD&manufacturer_name=&cy=USD&dept_id=1004

guys,
tell me where to find the ASIN and i'll check for you.
unfortunately my copy is the one with the reversed rear audio channels. if it helps the ISBN of the defective copy is:
0-7678-4719-9
and the UIN is:
43396 04730
You could get the R2 jap version, i dont know if it has the same sound problems but i heard it has some extra scenes compared to the R1 international version.
This may help.http://www.leon.nano.pl/integrale/index.php?lang=en
that's the first i've ever heard of that. AFAIK, the two are exactly the same cut. where did you hear otherwise?
(and the japanese R2 has no audio problems)
Read about it on the above site i think or imdb. Apparantly Stansfield threatens to kill the children at tony's resturant. That bit is not in my R1 international version so i assumed it may be on the jap one. The site i linked to also covers the sound problem.
From the site:
CAUTION: the first edition of this disc No. 04730 has a flawed soundtrack DD5.1. The second edition No. 06196 is free of this defect. A warning for those wishing to buy it third-hand.
This is finally coming out in the UK on R2 from Buena Vista, not sure of the date but it will be coming out.

I had the R2 Jap version. I don't recall this scene. It was the first release from about 2 1/2 years ago. The picture on the R1 Inter. Version is far superior to the Jap one. On the Jap one it isn't Anamorphic so you notice things like columns having jaggies etc..
When the R1 version was originally released it had no bass track on it, I remember that I got mine from Play and remember thinking how strange and undynamic the audio sounded, so I emailed them ( back in the days you got responses ) and a few weeks later got a copy with the correct audio.
I think it was just a problem with the first batch of releases and you should not have a problem any more
Cheers 4 the info Duncan but still doesn't explain why there is STILL 2 versions of it :) I think that I will wait until the R2 version comes out & the see which is best
Listy, looked at the links you posted above and i think it's the same disc. there were never two R1 versions of the international cut. it's the same disc. and that site has the worst synopsis i've ever read for this movie!
if you order this disc now you should definitely get the corrected version as it has been the only disc shipping for about 2 years now. there won't be anything new on the R2, and the japanese R2 is inferior quality-wise as has been explained above.

Ben Martin, here is the link to the DVD Debate thread, just incase you thought I was fibbing.

I guess i should not believe everything I read on the net. :norty:
got mine from Play about a year ago and its the "new" edition with fixed sound 0-7678-6831-X

Sorry to dig this thread up, but I just read it from a link on another thread and have to correct this.
The Japanese R2 (original JVC/Victor version) is anamorphic. Don't know what you've been watching, but it's not any of the Japanese versions if it's non-anamorphic. It's also pretty good quality in my opinion. The picture on the R1 isn't that much better.
Comparisons...
http://www.dvd-compare.com/comparisons/l_m/leondircut/index.htm
shadow detail looks much better though. at least going by those sample pics. anything darker than 'very dark grey' is black on the two japanese discs and you can't see any of the detail on the railings.
anyway, i agree that the quality is indeed pretty good regardless on the japanese versions and that they've been misrepresented on here.
btw, sweet work digging up this thread instead of starting a new one. ought to happen more often.
Blimeh! This is a bit of a blast from the past and oddly enough I don't remember writing this thread at all :suspect: . It was a pointless thread aswell cos I bought the Korean R3 2 discer in the end  :D
Apparantly Stansfield threatens to kill the children at tony's resturant.
I've watched my R2J DTS version (It's anamorphic widescreen).
There is a scene where Stansfield hints at killing Tony's children -- That's why Tony had to give him the location of Leon. I don't think that the R1 is cut in any way, so it should be the same.
There is no improvement in the DTS over the DD 5.1 (448 bitrate) track on the R2J DTS version. That said, I still feel the R2J disc is worth it, having a DTS track, a DD 5.1 track, and a Japanese track all on one disc, plus a heap of extras.
I don't know whether we are talking about a new Leon DVD here, but Natalie Portman has recently recorded a new commentary for a future Leon DVD, so if this is a different (currently released) version, it might be worth holding off for a few months to see what the new version brings.

I included that link in the Leon Japan DTS thread. Was asking about the scene where Stansfield threatens to kill Tony's kids and if it was in any home video version. What cinemasia refers to sounds like a truncated version of the whole scene and one that only seems to be complete on the French theatrical release. There's a thread going on about it on imdb. This is the scene that is being referred to:
- Stansfield calls the little children back from the kitchen and threatens to shoot them if Tony does not reveal where Leon and Mathilda are hiding.
