Question:
Happens just as Obi & Boba fly into the astriods.
Crap or what:nono:
or do you no better (worse)
Same on the R1 and (I believe) R2 versions. I thought it was well placed actually.
Seen far worse...
Its not a great one alright..quite noticable but it could be construed as a space-time hop.
The one in Ghostbusters is far, far worse.
I never noticed it :dork:
I can't remember which film it was, but there was one film I watched that paused for the layer change at the moment the shot changed, and it paused with one field from one shot and the other field from the subsequent shot, and as a result kept switcihng between them for a second as the layer changed.
Not sure if it was due to my player or not.
one in Blade R2 is the worst for me. The pause seems like 10 seconds.
The best ever has gotta be Spider Man.
Well, the layer change in the R2 Phantom Menace was pretty pants, so I'm surprised.
Anyone remember the layer change on the region 2 snake eyes??
It was in the middle of a sentence!!!
Spoony.
Think Galaxy Quest has a similar layer change (middle of sentence) although could be thinking of a different film.
Thing is my player picks up on them takes about 2 secs to change layer, really annoying
Goldfinger is pretty bad, the new Alan Partridge has a layer change in the middle of an episode - why?!
Monsters, Inc. R1, in the widescreen version - literally five minutes before the end of the film. No layer change in the P&S version - you'd think they could have put it in there instead!
The WORST layer change has got to be " The Bridge On the river Kwai" lasts for a good 10 seconds . Tis is due to the stupid way Columbia mastered the disk( instead of the laser working from the centre out and then back in to the centre -- as most dual layer discs do-- this one works its way from the centre out and then pauses whilst the laser re aligns itself at the centre agai and then works its way outwards again -- this causes the unusually lonnnnnnng pause which is pretty annoying
Why they couldnt have put the layer change at the natural interval in the middle i dont know
smithy20
I have to admit that the one in Ghostbusters is bloody awful.
If I'm right in thinking, it comes right at the end of a sentence - and cuts off the last couple of words.

Where abouts in Blade 2 does it happen, was watching it last night and never noticed anything out of the ordinary.
The one on the Drive R2 DVD is very bad, it happens right the middle of a back flip in a fight at the end.
Also on the 2000AD HKL Disc it happens right in the middle of a sentence.
pretty annoying,
I know this question belongs in the hardware part. but those who never notice a layer change, can you post what player you have?
I've never noticed any layer changes with any of my DVD's when playing them through my Samsung 511.

what he said (region 1)!!!
The only one I have ever noticed was during ''Serentipity''
Everyone complains about the Ghostbusters layer change, but i believe its down to what player you have. I have a Sony player, and I hear the whole line of dialogue, then the layer pauses when you see the city scraper.
I think people should complain to the DVD player manufacturers about layer change pauses. I have read else where on the forum that we should put up with the split second delay. I've got a Sony 735 but for me 8 times out of 10 a 1sec pause is jarring, it kind of throws me out of the movie that i was deeply into. It interrupts the flow
I never saw a single layer change on my Wharfedale 750. Notice them all on my Pioneer 530.
I think its a total disgrace that DVD player manufacturers don't make players that play films seamlessly, when I first got a DVD player and watched my first film, when the layer pause came I thought it was a fault.
I do NOT like layer changes
It can't be hard to make a player which does seamless changes, the Tosh 220 which is a very cheap player has seamless changes with my AMP not loosing the signal at all during a change.

Agreed. With the exception of a split second in AOTC and the 3-4 seconds in BotRK most go completely unnoticed on my Wharfie.
I don't know what brand of player it was but at a friends house, my Amelie disk stopped for a good 2 seconds for the layer change which is flawless on my player.
On my Sammy 709, I notice layer changes all the time - a 1 to 2 second pause is normal. This player also has an annoying habit of cutting the last split second of audio before the change, so on R1 Ghostbusters you miss the end of Winston's "Twinkie" line. Aagh!
I've since upgraded to an Alba 114, which despite being a cheap little bugger is much better at traversing layers. All of the films I've watched on it have either been completely seamless, or there's been a split-second freeze lasting a few frames at the most (and not noticeable unless you deliberately watch for it).
I think this is mostly an "old player versus new player" issue - the newer players simply have bigger buffers to cope with layer changes. I suppose that's the price you pay for being an early adopter!
Quite the opposite in fact in my case!
I'm sure the layer changes on my old Sony 336 were better than the Sony 700 I have now - "precision drive 2" - hopeless at layer pauses. In fact i'm pretty sure Sony players are among the worst of the big name brands for layer pauses - shocking... :nono:
Picture quality kind of makes up for it though:|
Almost all are noticeable on my Sony 725 :(
Spotted the worst one ever today - on the R2 Superman (Danish version anyway, don't know about the UK version). On a panning shot around the skyscrapers of New York (whoops, sorry, I mean Metropolis) at night, it pauses right in the bloody middle of it and then carries on panning!
Do the disc producers actually plan where to put the layer change?
Yeah I know:p
