In his commentary, Martin Scorsese ruined for me the incredible shot in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp when the camera glides along a extraordinarily long swimming pool leaving the 60-year-old Colonel at one end and meeting the same man forty years younger at the other, all in one take. I'm generally quite good at working out how these things work, but this one had me well and truly stumped!
The older Colonel at the near end of the pool is a double - he has his back to the camera
