Question:
Classic film and will be my first viewing, heard so much about it
cheers
Classic it may be but Carpenter’s is far better. James Arness as the eponymous "Thing" is quite hilarious. There are a couple of effective key scenes but too much has dated into camp.
IMHO of course.
It is quite enjoyable and you will find large parts of it similar to John Carpenters version.
yes but then again this over 50 years old
Attention 23 november just after midnight The Thing from Another World 1951
erm, where is it showing? :)
erm, where is it showing?
23rd November, 1:20am, BBC2. :)
BBC 2
thanks just updated the title of the thread
rumour has it that Howard Hawks, acting as producer, directed quite a bit of this. good example of auteur film making.
enjoy brothers and sisters
Well worth watching, especially if you are a fan of Carpenters remake.
Sorry but I find the Thing from another world to be highly overrated. The whole thing is far too slow, the performances wooden and the script cliched.
The only good things about it are Dimitri Tiomkin's music, and the fact that it inspired John carpenter to make a far superior version some 30 years or so later.
If you are watching it for the first time (as I would always recommend people to judge for themselves) don't feel that you are a freak just because you don't find it worthy of its "classic" status.
cheers
