dvd cuts
Question:

Hi, does anyone know of a website that lists cuts made to dvd film releases? As I was trying to find out if the region 1 Powerpuff girls movie was cut or not. If anyone knows of a website that does this, and could tell me, it would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!!

Tadaaaa. :| Well, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch were both cut for UK release, so I don't think The Powerpuff Girls being cut is completely unlikely.
PS. The R1 Powerpuff Girls movie DVD is pan & scam, so you'll want to avoid it anyway.

well i just thought it might have been cut cos the end was apparently a bit too much for kids to take. And as its audience will mainly be about 12 years old, I can see why :p
lenny i have no idea what you are on about :p

Unless you were fast enough to get the first mulan uk release :smokin:
There used to be a uk dvd cuts list site linked on melonfarmers but it must have closed or summat cos the link isnt working anymore. They used to rate lots of movies, not just horrors, kids stuff as well. Most of these other cuts/censorship sites just concertrate on horrors!
Btw- Does anyone know what was cut from Lilo and Stitch??

The scene where Lilo hides in a cupboard: it was originally meant to be a washing machine or tumble drier, but the Society of Cutting Up Movies were concerned that kids might copy it, so they had it replaced with a cupboard. :oh-hum: They offered a 12 uncut. :D

But then Im still getting my kids the reg1 version!********* is now shipping the R1, UK release not till next year. An added bonus is that the US version doesn't have that awful Gareth Gates knock-off of "Suspicious Minds" at the end.

Annoyingly, there's no authoritative US equivalent of the BBFC website, even though the MPAA are often just as destructive (if not more so).
Unfortunately, the way the MPAA operates means that the onus is on the film-makers to make cuts - they just say (often vaguely) what they're not happy with, which is why Hard Target had to be submitted something like nine times before it was given an R rating (and why the editing rhythms are shot to pieces as a result).
This is all part of maintaining the fiction that there's no censorship in the US, which is clearly ridiculous - economic censorship is just as insidious as the moral kind, as it's obviously impractical to release many films without an MPAA rating. But because the censorship is essentially economic, film companies are extremely reluctant to reveal how much they've had to change their films for obvious commercial reasons - and, even more annoyingly, the same censored versions are then released internationally, even if censorship boards elsewhere might not have problems with the material in question!
