Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ROCKS!
Question:

The first one was decent an over all solid affair, but nothing more. Here's my breakdown of each movie.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone:
Addaption: 7.5 (Good and faithful but jumps from one scene to the other)
Direction: 7.0 (Quite good, but could have been better)
Acting: 7.0 (Radcliffe is a problem sometimes, but not all that bad)
Visuals: 7.0 (Some good shots, and some mediocre ones)
Score: 7.5 (Very good score by the master Williams)
Overall: 7.0 (Good, solid and somewhat magical family classic)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:
Addaption: 8.0 (Flows much better and tells a better story)
Direction: 8.0 (Almost flawless and some amazing action scenes)
Acting: 8.0 (Radcliffe is much better here, as is everyone else)
Visuals: 8.5 (WOW! Dobby is utterly amazing as are the other shots including the spider scene and the finale)
Score: 8.0 (Much the same as TPS, just improved)
Overall: 8.5 (Way better than the first, and thats saying something)
Dont know what everyone else has to say about it, but it is almost certainly one of the top 5 movie of this year...However we still have TTT and Star Trek Nemesis to debut yet...so it could be pushed down the list a bit, but this one ranks highly up there with Spidey and Episode II as being one of the best family action films of the year...and indeed of all the genre's.
One thing I did notice about this movie is unlike the first, where one sometimes thinks "this is just some silly little kids movie, with the kids pretending to be adults on a huge adventure" sort of thing. In COS there is no such cheesyness or laughable stuff going on, its all very grown up...Columbus and co have clearly taken a page or two out of Peter Jackson and co's book.

a lot of seven year olds out there are clutching their Harry Potter DVDs reeling in huge embarrasment now i bet, you certainly put them in their place :(
i personally would say if you could post such a thing as your post, you should feel ashamed, grow down will ya! it's a terrible thing when people can't think and act like the unadulterated kids we once were!!

If that attitude is taken then you automatically write off films such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Bugs Life, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ( ;) ) the list goes on.....
There are many so called 'kids films' that are absolute classics, perhaps you should take things a little less seriously? :p

This is probably better suited to the reviews forum... Moving.

you're entitled to your opinion mate, but i'm 27 and reckon i'll probably lap this film up for the most part. and i couldn't care less what you or anyone else thinks of that. now that's something i did grow out of a long time ago.

I have to agree with him, the ones you mentioned I enjoyed (except Bugs Life) but I didnt think Potter offered anything for Adults in the same way most kids films do.

RESPECT! :rocker:
PS: Its their loss if they dont want in with us nearly 200 million Potter fans. The 4 'classic' books and soon to be classic films. I went on Friday to see COS, and I saw young kids lining up, parents with kids, young teenagers, older teenagers like myself and single adults, OAP's and even disabled people. Potter, being so open and accessable to anyone, unlike some other mega-successful franshises like Lord of the Rings and Star Trek for example. And no I am not a potter fan slagging off Rings, Wars or Trek. As it happens I am a great fan of all those franchises, I am just stating the obvious. Potter is getting bigger, back in 2001 when the first movie came out the fanbase was around 100 million, now 1 year on it has reached nearly 175 million. And we have the releases of books 5-7 to look forward too. Recent reports say by the time the 7th book has arrived the franchise could reach over 500 million in book sales. Within the next 10 years possibly 750 million. I wonder when the books will be added to the NC in our schools? I know LOTR has been added recently, so Potter could soon be too.

Don't forget Shrek!
At first i thought it was some crappy children's fairytale movie.
I'm glad i watched it, it is one of my fav films.
I have recently started watching alot of children's films, mostly animated ones, and i have to say that i like them, i'm so used to watching people get killed that it is nice to watch a nice film that touches you :)
I thought the first harry potter was gonna be crap, but i liked it!

Its always the case isn't it? Family movies are always the best. Forget crime drama so called masterpieces like The Godfather. There's no escapism in that, and thats what movies are all about, now more than ever in our troubled little world. Family flicks like Toy Story 1 and 2, Monsters Inc, Shrek, Harry Potter, A Bugs Life, Chicken Run, Star Wars, Star Trek and so on are always the ones you come back to over and over again...oh not to forget Lord of the Rings either.

Not seen it myself, but my sister (who is a huuge fan and has read the books several times) says that even more has been cut from the story this time, and the order has been buggered around with.

Some of these kids films are full of in jokes that only adults would notice. As for the suggestion that only kids should watch kids films - well don't we all deserve sometimes to be big kids again? Sometimes it's great to pop on Disney's Aladdin (not on DVD yet:mad: ) or Shrek and just chill out to something non-heavy.
As for the Harry Potter films, personally I really looked forward to seeing them, the main pleasure I found was seeing how the books had been put on to film. They certainly weren't rubbish but I wouldn't myself buy them.

I have just got back from seeing this and this is my sentiments exactly. As a film it is quite good, however as an adaptation they have strayed from the original quite a bit (a lot probably due to time constraints I guess). But as for the changes and additions to the story, I didn't like them much :( Overall gets about a 7/10 from me.

I have to say that I thought the film was great for kids. I love fantasy movies and so wanted to love the Harry Potter trilogy but I find I just cant get into them (though I adore the books).

I'm coming at it from the opposite end - ie I've seen both films, but haven't read the books yet (although I've got them on the shelf to read in those hours of spare time I have /sarcasm).
From a purely cinematic point of view, I think they're both very enjoyable films, with the second film just having the edge over the first. I don't think they're in any danger of sweeping the oscars, but as far as escapism and story-telling go, they're certainly better than a lot of other films that have come out over the last year or so... *cough* Die another day *cough*

I thought the film was excellent, and agree with the original poster, Dobby was pretty cool.
