Question:
has anyone received this yet ?
the picture looks a little soft, anyone agree ?
I thought it was supposed to be one of the best looking DVDs ever.
Although i am watching on a LCD screen. But im sure other DVDs look sharper than this.
Some of it looks a little soft, mainly the live action sequences. Lucas clearly used filters to make material shot with the digital cameras look more 'film-like'. Many of the CGI shots are razor sharp but some have also been softened to match the live action sequences. I don't think it's a problem with the DVD, but with the way the film was shot.

yeah i was thinking that.
i began remember it was like that in the cinema.
I also tend to agree about some scene with faces are a bit soft on the R2
Basically, shooting digital is not all it's cracked up to be. I have a friend who worked on this for ILM and said the picture quality they had to work with was awful. Full of "JPEG like" compression and barely any blue channel information. This may account for some the non cg shots looking soft, as they can render a spaceship as sharp as they like but a captured image is only as good as the camera that shot it.
Has anyone compared the R4 with the R1?
Yeah, the R1 version is disc shaped (shiny on one side) and comes in a box, like the R2 version.
Tee hee...

Michaels R4 DVD site (http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ReviewID=2127) has a comparison towards the bottom.

Thanks
hmm just watched this using a TV and it dont look any better.
i cant believe the reviews, the picture is far from perfect, yep as said above the CGI scenes are razor sharp but the bits with live actors, it really does look soft.
is it the same with the R1 ?
:( i went for the R4 cos it was PAL.
i have also noticed even on my 21inch tv in the red background walls become pixellated and wobble vertically when the camera move slowly. This is where they talk to the palpatine in the quarters. So much for digital film perfect to dvd reviews i have been reading
Anyone noticed this too ?
Is the PAL transfer poorer than the NTSC then ?.
Can't imagine there would be any great difference between the two to be honest.
