Question:
Just got Beauty and the Beast CE from Sainsbury's and the wife and child loved it. Been ordered to get as much Disney as possible as a result :)
Now I know they like to release 1 disc each year as a platinum edition :brickwall but what i really need to know is which discs out there are worth getting and in which regions.
I have Atlantis, Tarzan, Mulan and Fantasia.
Really interested in Jungle Book and Snow White for example.
I would only order from sites (or buy from the forums) and will not be off to Ebay that's for sure ;)
Cheers :)
Dinosaurs
Toy Story 1 & 2
Monsters Inc
Snow White is still available, but Jungle Book is OOP and now goes for over £50  (most eBay copies are bootlegs BTW) . I'm keeping my copy. :p
Basil, The Great Mouse Detective ... scheduled for R2 release on 18/11
if you can run region 1 i would recommend the Silly Symphonies on the Walt Disney Treasures series. Absolutely wonderful cartoons from the 30's. Disney will be releasing Classic Mickey Mouse cartoons on 3/12 which will be worth checking out too.
got to get Emporer's New Groove, a slight diversion from regular Disney, but still very Disney if you get what i mean, well worth checking out, i think as it's not based on some old story it didn't get the attention it deserved.. and the CE is excellent, if packaging is a concern get the R1 as it's really nice.. though off course PAL makes a HUGE difference with animation..
oh and get A Bug's Life, i don't know a single child who doesn't love that film!
Rescuers and Rescuers down under are entertaining if not top notch Disney; available dirt cheap in R4 (as are a lot of the "B-list" Disneys).
I'd second the Walt Disney Treasures - superb packaging (LE tins), many hours of beautifully restored cartoons.
I'd also recommend some of the following:
Emperor's New Groove - lots of fun and recaptures some of that zany magic of old.
Lilo and Stitch (when it comes out - R1 about a tenner from DVD Soon, due next month) - goegeous old-style animation mixed with CGI and a very funny story.
Dumbo - timeless classic
Pinocchio - ditto
I'd avoid a lot of their late 60s / early 70s stuff like The Fox and the Hound, which I find both brutal and sentimental in equal measure...
Phew .. that was quick :notworthy
I was a bit premature in describing my collection as i also have several of those films.
Snow White looks like a must and the Treasures look liek a good bet.
Which region for Snow White> Rewind suggests they are comparable although they do differ
Definitely want MI, Lilo and have been after ENG UE for over a year now but can never see it at a good price :(
Hi this link might be helpful when considering which region you are going to get.

If you can still get Snow White, by all means do. This film really is superb and compared to other Disney, wasn't really bettered until Beauty And The Beast. These two are the greatest Disney films without question.
My daughter is almost 3 and loves these two as well as Dumbo, all the Pixar films, Shrek and, for live action The Wizard of Oz (mainly the bits set in Oz) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (obviously not the child catcher) but she only gets to see bits of them as both have got quite frightening parts for a 3-yr old and they're too long for all she's allowed to watch.
There's a couple of others like Sleeping Beauty (which is not transferred in widescreen, but 1.33:1) but I can't see that going down so well with boys. Of the mid-period films, The Aristocats is good and I'll be picking it up fairly soon.
Aardman productions are also great and both Chicken Run and the Wallace and Gromit BBC collection are regularly watched.
Her favourite? Mary Poppins, which is great and easily Disney's best live action film.
Asked this question a while back, but was wondering whether anybody knows any more ..............
Why isn't Cinderella out on DVD - it's not even available on Video - I've tried Play, Amazon, BlackStar, Mr Benson's, HMV etc.
What surprizes me is that with the amount of Cinderella Disney Princess merchandise out at the moment, Disney would make a killing on this title.
Cinderella is not available on DVD and will not be released by Disney until late 2007 as part of their platinum series
There are however low-quality bootleg DVD's floating about e-bay.
Peter Pan (R1) is being pulled from sale at the end of the year, I haven't heard anything about the R2 version following suit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did,
So you might want to pick that one up soon.
