Gunbuster, is there a better version
Question:

hi
i'm looking at getting Gunbuster (anime) on DVD but apparently the version we have over here is pretty badly done (translation inconsistancies and some scenes were changed to ensure a PG rating*).
Does anyone know if there is a better version available on R1?
i've had a look but can't see one :(
*one scene where 2 or 3 of the main characters are in a bath had a chunk cut out to remove a brief full frontal shot, and had another part stretched to cover the cut (i don't mind the cut so much as the way they stretched the other part by slowing it to something like 5 frames a second which is pretty noticable apparently).

Answers:

Sadly no R1 available yet. Manga Entertainment :oh-hum: have the rights to it, and could release it next year, but nothing's confirmed so don't hold your breath.
You'll just have to put up with our hard-subbed, edited, VHS-port for now.
Still a great series despite the crapness of the disc. And at all 6 episodes for £8.99 at Play (http://www.playserver4.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=91879), it's still worth picking up instead of waiting god-knows-how-long for the R1.

thanks, that's what i thought.
i recorded it from sci-fi the other month (only just got round to watching it and really enjoying it, it's a bit diiferent to what i was expecting).
i'll get the one from Play for now, and when (if) Manga release a better version i'll get that.
Although i don't expect manga to do any better with their current track record (they've still got 2 or 3 outstanding bad releases that really need to be sorted) :oh-hum:
