Question:
The R1 'The Lord of the Rings' 4 disc Extended Edition DVD contains 2 GREAT easter eggs on disc 1 and 2 of the set.
Hidden on disc 1 is the MTV Movie Awards spoof on the Council of Elrond scene, which is really hilarious.
And hidden on disc 2 is the four-minute preview of 'The Two Towers' that was shown at the end of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' towards end of its cinema run.
I have checked my R1 version and they are definately there. I can only assume the R2 version probably has them too. So anyone who has the R2 version, check to see if the 2 easter eggs are there.
I found these easter eggs on the IGN.COM website, click the link below for instructions on how to access the easter eggs and also for some screen grabs.

Excellent
I had heard that the preview was on this set somewhere and after spending a while hunting through the movie discs last night I was about to post a question about it.
I couldn't find anything on Google TheOneRing.net or the official site either.
Jebus thats some review on that site!
the trailer is definitely there but i cant find the MTV thingy
I expect the MTV skit is what was cut from the R2 to avoid a '12'.
Is this the MTV skit with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jack Black?
Shame they couldn't include the much funnier (imo) Spiderman skit on the Spidey DVD. :(
It is the MTV gellar/black bit. Not even very funny.
couldnt find it on my r2 disc :( when to the scene selection and all that pressing Down does is go back to highlight scene 1 :((
Have to look for it on kazza i spose.
Yeah the MTV Council of Elrond thingy isn't on the R2. I've watched it on my R1 copy and thought it was only ok. Don't think you're missing out on too much if you've got the R2.
I've already mentioned this in the "Which version" thread but here goes again:
There have indeed been cuts to the extra in the UK R2 extras and easter eggs, whereas the continental R2 release is fine (glad I ordered from there :) ).

The BBFC replied to inquiries with the following letter:
Thank you for your e.mail.
Two DVD extras for THE LORD OF THE RINGS caused the BBFC difficulties. The first was a 'behind the scenes' documentary in which bad language and offensive hand gestures were used by members of the cast. These would have been unacceptable at the 'PG' level so the bad language was dubbed out and the hand gestures removed, allowing the documentary to receive a 'PG'. These cuts are reflected in the website record you mention (1 minute 16 seconds cut).
The second extra that caused us problems was the MTV spoof you refer to. Unlike the above documentary, however, the entire sequence was a problem at 'PG' and could not be saved by cutting.
The sequence in question showed a spoof of the Council of Elrond at which one of the characters announces that, after a drunken session in a piercing parlour, the Ring has been attached to his penis! We gave the distributors the option of removing this sequence entirely so that the disc could retain its 'PG' or, alternatively, accept a '12' certificate - in which case the whole box set would have to become a '12'. The distributors decided they did not want to raise the box set to a '12' so they did not proceed any further with this particular sequence. This is why there is no formal record for the MTV sequence on our website - the work was simply never passed by us in any version.
We hope this clarifies the situation.

Ooops! double post.

Fair play to the BBFC for sending a useful repsonse. Are they always that helpful?
To be honest, that cut don't remove anything that I'd want from a LOTR boxset - after all, the story side is much more important than any MTV dross :)
Hi you still get the Two Towers preview in the R2 disc at least. Peter Jackson itroduces it telling you youve found it. Its on disc 2. got to scene selection and highlight scene 48 the fanclub credits the when you press down on the remote a small tower appears highlight that and then press play.
Peter.
Is it the same preview for the two towers as on the 2 disc version of lotr?

No - its the one that was shown at the end of FOTR towards the end of its theatrical run. Lasts about three to four minutes and shown in DD5.1 and anamorphic widescreen - nice.
Worth watching as it has scenes not shown in the current TT trailers - you even get a sneak peak at Treebeard!

Its not dross - its actually quite funny  However certainly nothing to make you buy the R1 over the R2!
Actually a word of warning for those who might have been tempted by the Continental R2. I've doublechecked and it only has a French DTS track. The English track is DD only. Stay clear of that one...

French DTS only? bugger :/
Hard enough as it is to pick good R2 DTS discs off the shelves...
