Manhattan region 2 disc
Question:

I am almost positive that this disc's aspect ratio is wrong; the box says 2.35:1 but it looks like 1.85:1 to me. Has anyone else noticed this or know if this is the case?

Answers:

On my w/s telly there are the usual black bars whereas a 1:1.85 pic fills the entire screen, so it is 1:2.35 AFAIK.

Answers:

Thanks for the information; it could be that they got the anamorphic correct but messed up the non. I even took to measuring the picture with a ruler, and it's definitely not 2.35:1. I'm really not obsessed...

Answers:

I think the problem is your DVD player itself. Get out your manual and work out how to change the player's settings to "4:3 Letterbox", then it should play back at 2.35:1 just fine.
At the moment your player is automatically panning-and-scanning the disc (I know - I've just tried it).
It's weird, even at 1.85:1, how totally screwed up the film's composition is.

Answers:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now the film looks right. Believe it or not, this is my first DVD player... been using a DVD-ROM drive for four years, and I didn't even know the pan/scan option existed. Thanks again!

Answers:

The DVD booklet says that Woody insists TV showings are also broadcast in the original aspect ratio.
And you can check if that's still being adhered to on Wednesday night when it's shown at 12.30am, ITV1.
