Question:
HTF did they do those opening scenes where London is deserted?
My jaw was on the floor; much more impressive, and vast, than Vanilla Sky.
Apparently they did it very early in the morning and just politely asked people to wait while they quickly shot their 5 minutes each time. According to Danny Boyle he reckons everyone was so nice because they had just had good nights and come out to a beautiful morning. Either that or they were so hungover they'd do whatever they were told :D
By filming for a few minutes in the early morning on consecutive days - basically just asking people to stay out of the shot
So said Danny Boyle in Empire :)
:( Too late for me.
Wow, that's impressive! Leicester Sq, Westminster Bridge???
That rates as the best achievement in Cinema IMHO.
They also blocked off the motorway as well for a few minutes.

The fact that they were using DV cameras meant that they could set up a lot quicker than with conventional film, so the shots could be grabbed v. quick, unlike in Vanilla Sky.
In a radio interview, Danny Boyle mentioned that another tactic they used was to hire lots of good-looking women that asked people nicely if they would stay out of shot.
He said they the public were more receptive to them than the normal big burly security guys. :D
