Question:
A mate just e-mailed this to me from The Digital Bits (although I couldn't find it on their site - no reason to doubt him, though)
Sadly, we've been told by sources that a decision has been made to push back the release of MGM's Escape from New York: Special Edition until December of 2003, rather than January as had been reported by director John Carpenter recently.
In a word...BUGGER!
Good............i cant afford anymore discs .........i'm SKINT:(

Well, yeah...I know what you mean. It's been a particularly good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) few months for great DVD releases and I've spent far too much lately.
But put back by a whole year?!

Perhaps it could be for the good of the disc(i.e the Fog) which was delayed for the Extras?
I thought it had already been delayed once for precisely that reason?
AFAIK the SE that was due out in January was to include the commentary track taken from the laser disc and the infamous heist scene intro that was excised from the original release now restored and reinserted back into the film.
I imagine the disc would also have contained a documentary or behind the scenes features of some kind, but I've no official info on this.
It just seems strange that Carpenter himself should mention this SE in recent interviews and state that it would be out in Jan 2003. This suggests that the disc is near ready and to suddenly announce it's been delayed by 12 months seems pretty strange.
I wonder if MGM will explain their reasons?
the heist scene is reinstated ? i thought they would be deleted scenes.
plus how can they include the LD commentary if the movie has extra scenes ? well maybe seamless branching.
I'm sure I've read somewhere that the heist is reinstated and I think it was in an interview with Carpenter too. But please don't quote me on that as my memory may be playing tricks on me and it may just end up to be an extra on the disc!
If the scene is reinstated, then point taken about the LD commentary. Perhaps they have recorded a new one?
