Question:
Just seen this in HMV. I know it'll be a full screen, mono effort slapped onto disc by Vipco, but can anyone vouch for the overall quality. The previously available cut effort was one of the worst transfers I've ever seen. Anyone got it/getting it?
isn't there an uncut German (?) release from *********/digitalfixx?
I'm after an uncut version of The Burning, but, as you mention it's fullscreen, I don't think it'll be the Vipco release. :oh-hum:
I'm (fairly) sure that I read somewhere that Anchor Bay (or a similar R1 firm) had this on there release schedule for sometime next year !?!?
Will try and find out more.
The Burning is released by Vipco and I emailed them. It is fullscreen.
Wasn't The Burning a 'straight to video' effort ?? Hence its original aspect ratio may be fullscreen anyway - maybe.
no it wasnt a*straight to video* effort!!
the version ********* stock is the german dragon release - uncut but fullscreen. Not a bad print though, all things considered.
in the usa, MGM own the rights to the film. they *accidentally* released the uncut print on video a year or so ago. we can only but hope that their eventual dvd release will also be the same uncut version, hopefully in widescreen :D
Well it was straight to video quality anyway
The films a bit sucky anyway, even for a slasher film.
Apart from the great Tom Savini effects its a bit boring, it's just what you would expect from Miramax's first film.

Disagree - it's one of my favourite slasher films, much better than other ones out at the same time and certainly much better than the ones made now! The raft scene is so cool. Having said that, it's a while since I've seen it...
all i can recall is that it seemed a tad nastier than the other slasher films that were doing the rounds at that time.
so are there any reviews or comments on the disc?

Wasnt one of the teachers a young Holly Hunter?
Also did'nt she get them out for the lads?:norty:
Remember watching this when I was about 12. Scared the bejesus out of me and my mates it did too!
We watched Return Of The Jedi on pirate (remeber that?)afterwards to try and take our minds off it.

i have the uncut dragon dvd which is fullscreen but watchable enough quality all things considered. yes, that is the correct vipco one if you want to order it from play. I imagine it will be the same quality as the previous vipco cut release...can't see them doing anything to improve the quality somehow. a m8 of mine has already ordered, so i'll post back when it arrives and let you know how it looks
thanks :)
I gambled and bought this. The transfer is dreadful! One of the worst DVD's, quality wise, I own.:oh-hum: Hold off for AB's R1 release late '03, early '04.
mgm own the rights to the burning in the u.s.
i can't find any evidence that suggests anchor bay are releasing this or have even aquired the rights?
do you have any further info?
Trust me essexboyuk68. A friend seriously 'in the know' assures me AB US will announce this before the year is out.
trust someone on the net that i've not met in person? :suspect:
:D
sorry, any excuse to use that smiley...
let's hope you friend in the know has got it right then - an A.B. release would be great :smokin:
I'll hold tight then!
I've not even seen it but have always wanted to for some sick reason :suspect:
:D
ps. that's why I love these forums because as well as encouraging me to spend money I don't have ;) sometimes it stops me wasting money on rubbish releases! so er, ta!
lol :p essexboyuk68.
