Question:
Can any tell me wether the French region2 version of True Lies is uncut?, because the French has a THX certification and is anamorphic, where as if
i did go for region 1 it is non-anamorpihic
however if i did go for the region 1 non-anamorphic how would the picture look on my widescreen tv?
Don't know anything about the French version, but the Region 1 Five Star Edition should be out next year.
The original Region 1 picture was washed out, the new version would have to be remastered.
The current UK version is anamorphic and (accidently?) uncut. 'tis cheap too!
Consider the R4 issue for I think this one is uncut, anamorphic and PAL.
HTH
yeah nice one people, i'll probably wait for the five star, its a must for me to have THX as well as anamorphic
did they ever recall the R2 version ?
cos i was tempted to get True Lies in HMV sale, but wasnt sure.
R4 is an excellent disc but if a superduper version is out next year it may be worth waiting.

So the version that's going cheap at Play is uncut? Can anyone confirm this?
I'm not too bothered about a bells & whistles 5 star edition for this as, while I quite like the film, I don't think it's one of Cameron's best - certainly not up there with The Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss. So a good anamorphic transfer would do fine for me.
Am I to take it that the info at Rewind that states...
"R2 - 9 seconds cut by Fox and when submitted to the BBFC the film had a running time of 135m 20s but was released with a run time of 135m 18s (the longest available) and therefore 11s (9s by Fox, 2s by BBFC) have been totally cut and a further 18s of substitutions have been made.
The cuts were compulsory and required to detailed scenes of violence."
...doesn't apply to the current R2? They don't seem sure if the uncut disc has been recalled or not!
it should apply to the current R2, but they made a mistake and it hasnt been cut.
now im not sure if they have recalled them.
So it's a bit of a gamble to order it from Play?
Hmmm £8.50, shall I or shan't I take a chance?
I don't suppose anyone out there has bought it from Play recently, have they?
is it in the HMV current sale ?
if so, maybe you can take it back.
It is in their Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sale, but there's absolutely nothing else that I want to go with it! :(

I have the French version and it is uncut as well as anamorphic. Menus also default to English, so you would hardly know it is a French disc!
Well I took a chance and ordered it from Play - it arrived yesterday and I can confirm that it is indeed the uncut version!
Superb pic & sound on the disc, too. Bargain at £8.49.
doesn't this make a slight mockery of the entire classification process. Why don't other studios release their uncut versions then "not bother" to recall them?

Yes it does. :D
But the whole system that the BBFC uses seems nonsensical at times. For example they don't allow head butts in PG material, hence the cut in the Attack of the Clones DVD, yet in the Season 3 Robin of Sherwood set - first disc, "Herne's Son" episode - there's a fight scene complete with - you guessed it - a head butt! How do they come to their decisions, I don't think I'll ever quite understand them?
I read somewhere that there is to be a R1 five star edition from fox next year.
Is this true and when can I expect this gem to arrive on the shelf.
Love the film and would love to see a special perhaps with DTS 5.1 ?
...what! no DTS-ES 6.1?...
. . . . . .
You get the uncut R2 version from Fopp Shop for £7. I bought this and has the double ear clap in it.
I see from the "Comparison Review" pages the there have been cuts and substitutions on the R2 disc.
I have the R4 disc anyway, but does anyone know what these R2 differences are...or is it all to do with the ear clap sequence?
Thanks
