*** Important Band Of Brothers Packaging News !!!***
Question:

Sorry if this is a re-post, but I've just noticed this on my pre-order section at Play.Com:-
"Important Update! The tin box is of limited supply. When stock runs out the box will be cardboard. We apologise for any inconvenience."
Think I might cancel and go down to HMV/WH Smith/TESCO to ensure that I get a tin box - even if it means paying more!!!!

Answers:

I think that's the wisest thing to do! :D

Answers:

I don't mind if I don't get a tin box myself. Price at Play seems reasonable at £45.

Answers:

I saw this last night.
I hate cardboard, it looks like a trip to MVC which has it for £47.99.
I also know someone who ordered the R1 from Play and got a customs charge on top which made it about £70.

Answers:

I don't really mind if it's in a tin, or a sleeve. So I think I'll stick with PLAY.

Answers:

If it's a card box and comes from Play its likely to be damaged because they don't use very sturdy packaging. :nono:

Answers:

The tin is just as likely to get damaged from Play as they seem loathe to ship in anything other than those damn jiffy bags.

If it only costs £45 at Play, someone at Customs aint doin their sums right.
Should have been £12.95 charge maximum.
Get the R1 DTS Tin Box set from Amazon Canada (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006CXSS/ref=ed_list_9_2/702-1501265-8295258) , for £35 delivered, using the $10 discount code CANADASMAG5T
Possibility of customs, but will still be cheaper than any shop in the UK, and you will get a tin.

It’s the R1 nwgarratt is talking about - £57 at Play.

:shocker: hmmm.. Way Overpriced.
The Customs charge on the Amazon order will be £9.63, and I anticpate it will happen, given it's their number 1 seller at the moment, and thousands of identical parcels will land at Mount Pleasant on the same day.
Still a good price though at £45.

He doesn't say whether it's R1 or 2 though. So if anyone is after the tin specifically you might want to check with Play before they despatch.

I know mate im only kidding! i do understand people can get excited over packaging only last year i bought my 7yo nephew a radio controlled car and he was more interested in the bubble wrap it came in so i understand about packaging.
Next you will be telling me people buy films they dont like just because they have a DTS track!

Not particularly, it just happens that R1 has a tin box and dts, which is preferable to cardboard and no dts.

I really hope that we don't get stung by customs.
If we do it should still be about £45 in total.
I considered getting it from CD-WOW for £50 but then decided that it was worth the gamble with amazon.ca as if it was stung it would still end up less than the price as the CD-WOW price....
I also hope that it is shipped soon.

Cancelled on Friday afternoon.
Checked play website this morning - is out of stock already!!!!!
Packaging doesn't usually bother me that much, but as this is:-
(a) such an impressive looking tin.
(b) IMO, the single most important DVD release ever
then I'll make an exception and pay top whack to make sure I get the one I want!

Got a R2 version in the tin from my local ASDA this morning.
Price = £54.97
Price matched it down to £44.99 using a PLAY ad (from EMPIRE about 2-3 months ago IIRC ?) then hit them with my discount card.
Price paid = £40.49 :D

I agree, there was one disc loose though but it wasn't damaged.
I don't normally like fancy packaging but I do like this one.

I've got the R4 on order from Devoted for £30. Went into the shops today and saw the tin. It's a VERY nice piece of packaging but i'm not going to pay £5-20 more for the tin or to have DTS. The Digital Bits review said the DTS track was almost identical to the DD so i'm not bothered about losing the DTS track.

I get the feeling it is very limited as Play.com had run out of them already. Even some people with preorders are getting cardboard.
I am glad to have the tin as it will be much better for protecting the discs and cardboard will just get damaged after a while.

Really - where did you read that pre-order people are definitely getting cardboard?

Answers:

Dunno about how scarce the Tin is but most Tin releases are limited releases anyway mainly due to the high cost of making them.
They *will* run out but since most of the High St stores have loads of them I doubt people will have trouble getting one at the moment.

Both MVC and WHsmiths has it for £47.99. I got mine from MVC. I didn't want to risk damaging the tin and not bothered about the DTS of the R1.

I bought mine in HMV today, and it's the tin version. They had about 7/8 in stock. MVC near London Bridge had about 7/8 tins as well.
The set is awesome looking, although disc 1 and 2 are scratched a lot, but they seem to work okay. Am I anal enough to get the set changed because the discs are scratched - what would you do?

Get 'em changed, after all the money you will have spent on them you deserve quality merchandise. Won't be too much hassle, just get them to swap the discs, not the tin (in case they have run out). Then you have pristine copies to watch again and again and again in years to come.

Glad to see so many people are interested in this series! I'll be interested to see the Week 1 sales figures. I would have thought the $45-£60 price would put a lot of people off.
Anyway, I got the tin from Tesco last night - £54.99, but I had a £5 Clubcard voucher (if you spend £30 or more on DVDs/Cds/Games) so for £49.99, I'm well happy.
Had a quick flick though each of the discs - I noticed that some episodes were well over the 60 minute mark (hights was Episode 1 at 1.09, although Episode 2 was 49 minutes). The general feeling I got was that the total for all ten episodes must average out at an hour or more. So does this mean that R2 has the extra bits that were not broadcast on the BBC?
PS: The tin is VERY nice, but I also had one disc loose!

Answers:

I want copies of this for myself and for father-in-law for xmas, so was gonna order R4 from aus, or risk amazon.ca - but then remembered I have friends in retail and distribution - so 2 R2 tins @ £40 each and no customs risk for me :D

Can anyone recommend a panel beater for my tin? It's not as if I can take it back to the shop is it? (last one in MVC). Maybe I should consider the dents as battle damage.
Perhaps this will be a story that we tell our grandchildren. How we were forced to leave the safety of our chat forums and internet pre-orders and enter the unfamiliar world of the high street. How we fought for our right to buy DVD boxsets in cool and expensive looking packaging. How we made sure that everyone else had to make do with the cardboard box. Capitalism triumphs again!

You can ask MVC to get a replacement tin for you. Take the whole package in to them and tell them that you will be keeping the contents but that you want them to send the tin back to be replaced.

Just bought my tin set from virgin earlier today, very nice packaging, but luckly i tested the discs as the 5th disc, the one containing the last episodes does not load, i think it may be due to a few; what looks to be hair but maybe cracks just beside the hole of the disc before the main discs starts (in the pure silver region), does anybody know if this is causing the problem as i thought only cracks on the main disc i.e after the inner circle could affect playback, either way looks like ill have to exchange for a new one:( Hopefully they still have a tin set left:shocker:

If not, explain why and ask for a replacement disc - they should not object to that. Especially if you do it when they are busy and if they mess you about, just start talking calmly but loudly. It is amazing how fast things get satisfactorily sorted out when you do that ;)

I must be very sad too as I've been into shops every day this week looking at the tin - the assistants in my local WH Smith must have thought I was very indecisive as I kept going in there every night! :D
I'm glad Amazon had the tins - I found one of the cardboard boxes in HMV yesterday and it's awful compared to the tin. I was fretting last night wondering if amazon had sent me a tin or not - I would have been really gutted if I'd got the cardboard one!
The weird thing is that if they'd never produced the tin we probably would all have been quite happy with the cardboard version as it's not bad for a cardboard box (although I haven't seen it open). It's only because our expectations have been raised so much by the tin version that the cardboard version looks so bad.

Wouldnt it be easier to just sell the cardboard affair & keep the tin?
The card inside the tin is glued in fairly well, and I dont want to try & lift it & mess it up.
