Cat O Nine Tails - Anchor Bay disc problem!
Question:

I won a copy of Argento's Cat O Nine Tails on ebay, but it won't play on either of my Pioneers (a 515 and a 530) or the DVD drive in my computer (though I'm not sure if it's R0 or R1 and the DVD drive is locked in R2).
Is this title known to be problematic with certain players or was there a bad batch produced at one point?
I've emailed the guy I bought it from and am awaiting his reply, but any info in the meantime would be most appreciated.

Anyone?

This Anchor Bay DVD is definatley code free.
I have a Sony Player that displays all the compatible regions when a disc is loaded, and this is 1-7.
So it should work on your PC.
It also plays fine on my Pioneer DV530.
I bought it when it was released, so is a first batch pressing.

Thanks Raptor.
The disc is clean and free from scratches or surface marks, so it looks like I've definitely got a dodgy disc! My 530 tries to load the thing for a few seconds and then gives up and spits it out!
Hope the guy I got it from is understanding and offers a refund.

I've got the disc myself and have had no probs with it all. However, I remember seeing a couple of threads on Usenet where people were reporting problems with this disc. It sounded familiar to the probs with other Anchor Bay discs such as Heathers and Opera, where the disc was fine initially but developed probs playing later. With these discs this was supposedly a problem limited to a short time period where their suppliers changed their manufacturing process though, so may not be relevant.
Just checked Google and there's a thread <a href="http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&threadm=20020705103725.477%24MB%40news.newsreader.com&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fas_q%3Dcat%2520nine%2520tails%2520problem%2520dvd%26safe%3Doff%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26lr%3D%26hl%3Den">here</a>, for example, which isn't particularly useful as it just degenerates into a slanging match about "DVD rot"! Make of it what you will... ;)
