THERE SEEM TO BE MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF NOSFERATU AVAILIABLE TO BUY, DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA AS TO WHICH IS THE BEST TO BUY?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

Answers:

R2 Eureka 2 disc is supposed to be quite good, but the score is a bit iffy i think.
R2 BFI DVD has a better score i think, but a different tint
sorry i dont actually own any yet :)

Answers:

I am the owner of a BFI edition and it get the original tints I think along with a lovely sound for score. This is probably the close to origin as will available and very good to get.

...here's a review comparing the Eureka and bfi versions of F.W. Murnau's 1921 German silent movie...
...since daniel_js5's post does not specify which "Nosferatu" he's interested in, I take the liberty of mentioning that there is also Werner Herzog's 1979 German/French remake, starring Klaus Kinski and Isabelle Adjani...
. . . :smokin: . . .

Eureka has much better extras and a sharper picture (and more if it on your screen, whatever the size) as the BFI has been 'over cleaned' to the point where some background details are now obscured into invisibility.
As for the score, well it's a matter of taste. They're both good. The Eureka has a demented avant garde score which is absolutely perfect for the film. And it's in 5.0, unlike the 2.0 BFI. Bernard's score on the BFI is also cracking, and beautifully played - even if it's not wholly original, and full of repetition.
The Image R1 has good extras and two scores, but neither can compete with the R2s. And the new Kino appears to be a match of the BFI picture with the Eureka score (along with a few other bits and pieces).
The Eureka 2 disc R2 is the best disc all round. But if you like Bernard's score you'll have to get the BFI disc too.

It's also worth pointing out that the Eureka 2 disc R2 has both the original B&W version and a 'sepia' tint version across the two discs.

Good link, Garry.
I've been saying for ages that the Image (and nearly identical Eureka) pictures kick the pants off the 'allegedly better' BFI disc, and those snaps seem to confirm it beyond doubt.
But... what the BFI transfer does well (and you can't see in stills) is steady the picture on a frame by frame basis. Although, for reasons which are beyond me, the intertitles shake all over the place! It's that kinda disc!
