Question:
Does anyone own these discs?
I was just surfing DDDHouse and came across them.
It says on their site that they are anamorphic and DTS - is this true?
What are these discs like then!!!1111
Thanks.

2 of my favourite Chow movies from the recent years.
Shingster has given them a quick look over at the asian DVD forums (traitor!:p)

Do you, or do you not look at other Forums Cirrus mate?
And after you said you went to look at other forums!!!111 ;)
I've got #1, much cheaper at Coolashop btw.
The disc is most definitely Anamorphic Widescreen and contains Cantonese DD5.1, DTS5.1 and Mandarin DD5.1 Audio options. Special Features are limited to just a trailer, maybe biographies.
I have only had the time to flick through the disc, but from what I saw I was very pleased. The transfer uses a fairly beat up print, scratches, dust etc is very frequent, but that doesn't really bother me as detail, colour reproduction, black levels etc is all good and offers a very nice looking picture overall.
The sound too seems to be a step up from the norm in terms of remix quality as well. Very clear, good use of the surrounds in the scenes I sampled. English subs seemed good and are optional.
Shingster has both the discs and posted a few thoughts on BulletsnBabes & Asiandvdguide, so i'm sure he'll post in here later.

Pah! ... we don't want his 2nd ... no 3rd hand views in here!
Might as well copy n paste the bugger, even though a certain chap hates 3rd hand reviews, but then he's only noticed it because he's such a forums slag! :p
Ok, not had time to watch them fully yet, prolly won't till the weekend now but i did sit down for an hour & compare them to the old Mei Ah releases & thankfully the Megastar transfers wipe the floor with the old :)
Ok the one thing to disappoint most is the fact that Megastar have got the same prints that Mei Ah did & like Mei Ah they have not remastered them, so these new discs exhibit the same level of print damage (which is a fair bit but nothing too worrying). Other than this it's plain sailing all the way as the megastar releases exhibit more detail, crisper colours, deep blacks & of course they're anamorphic.
The biggest difference lies with the audio though, the megastar discs sound very clear & imo they've done a top job with these releases, it's a country mile better than the audio on the mei ah dvds that's for sure!
I for one am very glad i went out on a limb & upgraded from the mediocre Mei Ah releases! :)
If I can find the time i'll write up a big proper comparison review over the weekend & I promise this forum will be the first to recieve the link Kin! :notworthy
